I purchased 5 sets of these lights and they worked well for about a week. Then they began to malfunction. I returned 2 sets and exchanged them ,installed them and of the nine lights on my deck only four are working properly. Has the malfunction of this style of lights been an ongoing problem? Is there a recall on these? What do I do to have this problem corrected?

I fixed them all by pulling the wires of the switch and soldering them together. Essentially shorting them to on all the time. This will prevent you from turning them off, but oh well. I have 6 lights working for now.
I would not buy them if I knew what I know now!

Answer:
With mine, there was a lot of moisture intrusion due to lack of weather sealing. Look at the little round "dot" in the solar cell. If you cant clearly see lines in that small cell, you more than likely have moisture damage to the light sensing cell, also called a photodetector. With this damaged, your light will never be "told" to turn on.

I just threw them away. I didnt even worry about trying to get a refund or return. Didnt feel it was worth it. I would stay away from them and find yourself some better ones.
There will always be a market for super cheap, albeit ill performing, products. Hence these things still being sold. Read Less

Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones to have them even work at all. Mine never did. I would have got more light from burning my money.

Answer:
I had the same issue. If you read most of the reviews, these lights have a design flaw, where water gets under the solar panel and shorts out the sensors / circuitry. Also, the solar panels charge better with full sun, cloudy or overcast days will not allow full charges.

Answer:
On the box or documentaton I read 8 lumens, I would put the output closer to 2, total waste of money if your expectation is illuminating anything such as an address.

Answer:
You have to twist off the glass portion. Once the top is off, flip it over and you will see the switch and the battery compartment.
Hope this helps.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lights are fantastic We just had a new deck built, over 700 sq ft. I installed 24 of these solar powered lamps on the 4x4 post. In the last month we have had rain, and extreme heat. Every single night all 24 lamps light up. Some don't last as long as others, they are out my 2 am. I believe its because they are in the shade under the tree so they cant charge up as well. overall this was a big expensive gamble, and I am pleased to say it paid off. The deck looks amazing all lit up at night, the lamps gives off enough of a glow to softly illuminate the 20x40 foot pool without being too bright. Also, it comes with hanging hooks, well I didn't use them for the lamps so I re-purposed some of them into parts of the deck side railing as towel hangers. July 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap on/off switch Very nice solar light, bright LED but the main problem that I have had is the on/off switch is very flaky and does not work after a while, when switching ON the LED light will flash but does not stay on. Don't buy. August 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Box says will fit 6x6 and guess what? It doesnt!!! Seriously h.d., why stock a product like this that lies right off the bat? The directions were written by a 5 th grader who never worked with this product. After getting home and simply making the attempt to slide these on a normal 4x4 post with a vinyl sleeve created the problem. For some reason, the instructions dont address vinyl railings, which many americans have! Im looking all over and in the box for some sort of adapter to fit 6x6. None found and directions completely blow off! Other issue is color choice. Why isnt white offered? Dont buy causr apparently if you do get them mounted, they wont work for long anyway. They were the most expensive in stock and this is an example of not getting what you pay for. July 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not fit post as advertised! Product box indicates it fits 6x6 post however that is not the case, its false advertisement! July 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor packaging These don't fit a 6x6 post and the manufacturer knows it and still has not changed the packaging. Very poor packaging and a waste of my time to take them back. July 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product barely lasted one season When first installed the lights looked beautiful, but within a month some worked all the time, some worked every other day. I purchased 8 sets of lights for 2 houses, now I am down to 6 lights that work. Please do not purchase these lights unless you plan n replacing them yearly June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Choose another brand Straight of of the box (after charging) one did not work. Returned, new ones, one works as intended, the other just stays on. Total garbage, don't waste your money, Home Depot shouldn't even carry them. June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by They kept me in shape I bought two sets last spring. Three of the four worked OK for a couple of days. Then none worked. I took them back for replacements twice after that. Then I tried new batteries (had to buy them elsewhere because HD doesn't carry them). Worked for awhile. Found out that it wasn't the battery that made them turn off. The cheap on/off switch wouldn't stay in the "on" position. The slightest vibration from a breeze would turn them off. I'd go over and tinker with the switch and I moved it just right, they would stay on....until the next breeze. This year, I'll spend a little more and buy something that actually works. At least I got some exercise, constantly going outside to try to turn them back on. March 16, 2016
