Product Overview

DHC tankless water heaters are ideal for residential and commercial point-of-use sink applications including: bathrooms, cabins and cottages, office buildings, stores, malls, warehouses, restaurants, and gas stations. They heat water instantaneously and endlessly at 99% efficiency as it flows through the unit. Because they do not store hot water like tank water heaters, they have no stand-by energy losses. Venting is not necessary and the compact European design can be installed with the unit visible. The hot water temperature delivered by a DHC depends on the incoming cold water temperature, the flow rate through the unit, and the size of the DHC model. They excel at supplying water at a constant temperature but the model must be carefully matched to the flow rate of the sink to operate properly. Refer to the DHC Sizing Guide to determine which model you need. Call Stiebel Eltron at 800.582.8423 with any questions. Stiebel Eltron invented tankless electric water heating technology more than 90 years ago, and is still the industry pioneer and world leader today, with an engineering and manufacturing tradition of excellence.

Customer Questions & Answers

How do I make DHC 10-2 more sensitive to flow?

Unit shuts down if cold water is mixed at the faucet to temper the water temperature. The cold flow reduces pressure in pipe and the flow sensor shuts off the unit. Can the flow sensor be adjusted? (already change to bigger pipes...helped but did not solve the problem)
Asked by: Miketheplumber
Use the flow adjustment screw to set the desired temp and don't inject any cold water into the mix, i.e. use just the hot side water. If problem continues, call Stiebel Eltron.

I purchased this unit 2/14. After initial installation it worked fine, but now it won't make hot or warm eater

Asked by: Rick
Sounds like your filter screen may need some cleaning or debris removed from the incoming cold water line. I would suggest calling Stiebel Eltron to review all the details.

Plan to replace a tank water heater with this in the same location. It is about a 20 foot run to the two sinks that it will serve. They are very seldom used. Salesman said that the tankless heater would take much longer than the tank heater to supply hot water. Question: if this heats instantaneously, why would it take any longer than the tank? Either one would have to run the 20 feet to get to the sinks so I would think the timing should be about the same, or at least no more than an additional few seconds to run through the coils.

What Home Depot connectors should I buy?

The new water heater has 1/2" NTP male connectors. My house connections are 3/4" FIP male connectors. What is the setup of hoses and connectors that I should buy at my local Home Depot store to get this to work on the "water side"?

Customer Reviews

DHC 10-2 9.6 kW 1.46 GPM Point-of-Use Tankless Electric Water Heater is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from As advertized Installed, adjusted, working. Cost about as much to install (in materials) as the unit cost (I needed 50' of 8/2 wire). Only complaint is on install the bracket holding the wire junction block became disconnected due to the stiffness of the large gauge wire. It was easily reconnected. Flow rate and incoming water temp are key factors, so best to make sure your situation will work by testing these values. Still working great now a month after install. Will be interested to see how our moderately hard well water (7 grains) affects the performance over time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job First, we have a whole house tankless so I knew what to expect. I put this one under the kitchen sink, and will be putting two more for the bathroom (a smaller one) and the washer. The unit goes in easy and does the job. We get hot water in about 5 seconds, and I expect a lot faster in the bathroom as the kitchen has a pull out nozzle, and so nearly 8' of pipe between the water heater and the output. My flow is was about 1.5gpm and its dropped to about 1.25gpm. Right now, the cold water is super cold at 40F. At full flow, the water is warm. Nice for hand washing. To make it hotter, we simply turn down the faucet a little and it gets quite warm, as warm as I'd want it. Here's a few comments and suggestions (if Stiebel reads these): 1) it'd be much nicer if the water connections were on the top. These things are designed to go under the sink, so having to get a longer flex-pipe to go to the bottom simply makes for a longer delay for warm water. 2) there's no clamp for the wiring, just a plastic hole and rubber grommet. I ran 6 gauge cable through liquid-tite conduit and didn't have any way of attaching the conduit on the water heater side other than just wedging it in the hole. Hopefully the inspector won't get on my case about it. 3) fair warning: and this is simply something that happens with electric tankless units: if you turn the hot water off, then wait a short bit, say under a few minutes, then turn it on again, a few seconds after it starts you'll get a pulse of really hot water. This is because when you shut off the water, the heating element is still hot and heats the now stationary water hotter than normal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my rental suite! I converted a small carriage house to a rental suite. Space is at a premium and I didn't want a hot water tank wasting a bunch of space. Did my research and decided on the Stiebel Eltron point of use on demand electric heater - don't have natural gas or propane. Installation was a snap! With a little tweaking of the set points of the heater and the restricter have endless hot water for the shower and galley kitchen. Great solution for a great price. Very impressed. Also installed a larger unit in my house - also very impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the price! It's actually worth more than what I paid for it, but am happy with the product. It gives a nice flow of hot water. We're using it connected to a kitchen sink and two bathroom sinks in our concession stand. We've never had hot water in this location before, and everybody is pleased with it so far. I did not install it, I had an electrician install because it took a 50amp breaker and I think it was either 6 or 8 gauge wire in conduit. Adjusting the temp was a snap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Product Hooked into a small apartment with 1 occupant. Although it was easy to install I did run into 1 problem. When the shower was first used the water would go from cold to very hot over and over the entire time it was in use. Called customer service but they were no help as to why this could happen. He suggested not enough flow. I tested with only hot water and it would stay hot the whole time even with very little flow. At time of installation The splice from the cold supply was hooked to the water heater with only @ 5 in connection and then a short run to the shower hot valve. I changed the supply line to and from the heater and added about 9 feet between the input and the hot valve. Now with the hot valve on @ 3/4 flow the temp can be brought down to the correct temp by adding cold. It works great and I can't wait to see the savings on my electric bill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DHC10-2 Tankless Water Heater Used for kitchen sink which takes forever to get hot water as it is on opposite side of house from hot water tank. Installed in basement below kitchen sink rather than under sink cabinet where there is little room for plumbing and it works wonderfully, now have hot water in 10 seconds. Would get hot faster if installed under sink in cabinet as it is closer, but by installing in basement did not have to work lying down. Other than cost of running the heavy gauge wire to unit no negatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good hot water! Worked as advertized. Provides plenty of hot water for a sink or even a shower. BUT, remember I live in south Texas where the water is not that cold to start with.
