Customer Questions & Answers

Will this unit replace my existing electric water heater?

My house is wired for a 220v water heater, with one circuit, the Stieble shows that two circuits are needed with two double pole breakers-. How can it be wired in safely
Asked by: Bubba
The manual says two 40 Amp breakers and #8 wire.

get the right temp

what temp should the incoming water be to get to 107 degrees for showering
Asked by: nardi
The answer depends on the flow rate. If you are supplying only a single shower with a 2 GPM showerhead, then a Tempra 15 will need 57 degree incoming water to supply 107 degree hot water. If your showerhead is 2.5 GPM, then your incoming water temperature needs to be 67 degrees. Make sure you calculate with your Winter ground water temperature rather than your Summer temperature. Last thing you want to do is take a cold shower in the Winter!

Hello, What size wire / how many conductors and Amperage Circuit Breaker is required for this item? Thank you for your help.
Asked by: David
Unit requires a minimum of 30 amp breakers on 10/2 awg copper wire. You will need 2 separate circuits. Voltage drop must be less than 3%.

I used the area maps and usage diagrams to figure out which heater to purchase. Knowing I had 100 amp service this was the largest unit I could install in a seasonal house with one set of kitchen faucets, bathroom faucets, and one shower/tub. Installation was quite straight forward and went well.Usually one set of faucets would be used at a time, so I expected the unit to perform well. However, it didn't work very well with any one source of water usage turned fully on. Apparently the water flow was too much for the heater to keep up with. I closed the valve partially on the incoming water to reduce the flow to see if I got better results. It helped a tiny bit. Next by reducing the outflow when trying each different faucet system I was able to get a steady red light and constant 120 degree hot water from the heater. I think the problem is my water coming from my well is colder than the 42 degrees shown the map covering the state of Maine and the flow rate is too strong. In hindsight, If I could have afforded it, perhaps the Tempra 15 Plus might have worked better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Product Adjustable Temp. on front easy to use. I love It, Saves on my electric bill. Plenty Hot. I had a power star that was all that was available 5years + ago never did work right. I did my research this time and found this. It is what I should have had from the start. Fantastic Product. These do take a plumber and electrition to hook up. My house was built with hookups and special electrical in mind running these units is 220 with Two 40 amp connections. Farther North you will need the more amp units. But these are well worth the investment and they take up very little space. Hook up took about an hour, electrition plumber highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be extremely careful before buying. This device will not provide hot water for a tub in Canada or north of the Mason-Dixon Line. The sizing guide did not indicate anything about a tub (high flow device) not getting hot water. I put this in a cottage and the tub will not get anything but tepid water.
