Customer Questions & Answers

From what I unerstand, even though this is listed as an "elect. mower", it is considered a"push mower"? Would this be hard for an elderlly person ?

I know reg. push mowers are too hard to push for an elderly person, but reading the description and reviews for this mower, it sounds like it would be easy to push for an elderly person. Do not want to purchase if too hard to push. Would rather pay a little more for a reg. elect mower. Help me out w/this decision please.
Asked by: confused
It is definitely a push mower and takes strength to push it in thick grass, not as easy as I thought it would be. If you have blade grass may be easier. But you still can't let it go more than a week between mowings. I will probably be returning as it is harder to push than I thought it would be.

what does maximum cord length mean? you can't use a longer cord or it won't function well? the larger version of this has a max cord length of half t.

Asked by: Carol
The 100ft, 16 gage cord should be OK for a 12 amp motor. Officially, you should be using 14 gage at 100 ft, but there is some safety margin built in. A longer or thinner wire cord has more electrical resistance and will deliver a lower voltage to the mower than what is coming out of the electrical outlet the cord is plugged into. When an electric motor (like in your mower) is driven by that lower voltage, it draws more current. It will certainly draw a lot more current if something jams the blade while power is turned on. If it draws too much current, it will smoke the motor. Be careful that the blade is always free to rotate. If it gets jammed, turn off the mower and unjam it immediately. If you want to use a cord longer than 100ft, you should use a thicker wire . . . 12 or 14 gage. A better description of what happens is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownout_(electricity)

does this mower come with a battery--what else is needed to make this mower go?

Asked by: Chris
It is electric, so it requires an OUTDOOR-rated electrical extension cord, and it is very important that you get the correct gauge (thickness). That depends on the length of cord you need, so check the manual. You could damage or ruin the motor otherwise. I think it's 14/3 for a 50-ft cord and 12/3 for 100-ft cord (smaller #s = bigger thickness/gauge). But do NOT take my word for it. Check the manual. And do NOT hook two cords together. Tha's a fire hazard.

14 in. 12 Amp Electric Lawn Mower is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1218.

I did not find the blade that sturdy cause I hit some rocks with it and the blade is already bent and notched in places. It is light weight and easy to handle. It has safety features I did not know till I got it and they can be good to use if you have to. If you get into too heavy of grass while mowing the machine will tend to stall out but if you lift the front end it will return to normal without restarting it. I have had it about a month now and used it one time. With the wrinkles I found in it I am still satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the price Pros: Very easy to use (once you get used to moving the cord out of the way) Lightweight and very easy to adjust the three height settings. Great deal for the price I paid. Easy to turn and roll. Cons: Grass catcher is sometimes hard to latch on. (I usually straddle the mower to slip it into the grove) To start the mower, you push a button and hold the handle down to keep the motor engaged. For someone with arthritis this could be challenging. If the handle was a little longer, you would be able to use two hands to keep the motor engaged. I like the bright green but so do the bees. Someone with bee sting allergies might want to avoid this model.

It cut my overseeded winter lawn very evenly and without the damage to the grass blades that the garden service's gas powered machine did. Only problem is managing the cord around trees. It cut very close to a brick border so using the string trimmer is not needed every time. Small volume of the grass catcher was not a problem, as it is so easy to detach and empty. I think In paid a bit too much, but it is a good product especially for small areas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Great Product and love everything from the purchasing process, to receiving my mower less then a day after ordering it, and to top it off it works amazing. I hadn't cut my grass for months, so needless to say it was tall, and like a champ this mower handled it. Great buy and price, you won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Little Mower I've mowed the yard 4 times with the Sun Joe. So far so good. Pros: Cheap, Easy to Start, Lightweight, No gas or oil smell when stored. Adjustable cut height. Handle folds down for storage. Cons: Grass catcher fills up fast (not sure if it's required), It's mostly plastic so you can't bang it around as much or run it as long as a more expensive metal mower (duh), Power cord management (if you're prone to spacing out while mowing you might want to spray paint your extension cord fluorescent pink, orange at the very least).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower for small areas. The mower was easy to assemble and very light. If you know how to vacuum, you can use this mower since the electrical cord needs to be kept out of the way. The only issue I have with it is the cap (bright green color) for the handle screw... it has already come off and I have to keep locating it to unfold and then refold the handle. This is because I store the mower in a tight space with the handle folded. Otherwise, it runs great, cuts clean and has enough suction to leave a tidy lawn. The only other small comment is what do you do with the "cord" holder... I don't get that small part on the handle... :(

NEEDED TO REPLACE MY GAS MOWER AND DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND $400 + ON A NEW ONE. $95 SEEMED REASONABLE. I HAVE TO SAY I'M IMPRESSED. WE FINALLY GOT SOME RAIN HERE AND THE LAWN (AND WEEDS) TOOK OFF. WASN'T SURE IF THIS LITTLE MOWER COULD HANDLE IT. TOOK IT LIKE A CHAMP , NO STALLING OR BOGGING DOWN AT ALL. THE BONUS WAS THIS MOWER IS EASILY LESS THAN HALF THE WEIGHT OF MY GAS MOWER AND VERY EASY TO MANEUVER AND DID A BETTER JOB. THIS MORE THAN MAKES UP FOR THE SMALLER CUT WIDTH ( 14'' VS. 21'') . ALL THIS MAKES THIS MOWER A GREAT DEAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOWER TO ANYONE UNLESS YOU HAVE CRAZY TALL GRASS ( JUST WEED WHACK IT DOWN TO A COUPLE OF INCHES AND YER GOOD TA GO). I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOWER

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nope. Lasted 7 weeks; then the motor died. Before that, had to use it without the bagger as it filled far too quickly to be of use; then the machine would hurl gravel and other yard debis at the lower legs and ankles, since the grass diverter was in the back and not on the side. Painful, and No fun. Also, the cheap plastic design and toy like tires made pushing it a heavy chore, and the carriage was easily damaged by said yard debris. I don't recommend. However, the Home Depot team was amazing and made exchanging it for a different model--this one with a metal frame/carriage, a breeze. I am expecting the replacement next week. Great store, bad product.
