Customer Questions & Answers

Will the aqua winder hose reel rewind ok with two 50ft hoses connected? Will the connection go thru the feeder ok?

Asked by: KB
KB, the hole is in the hose guide (not stopper) that is 1.75 inches in diameter. The hose stopper is the black piece that fits near the end of the garden hose to prevent the end from being pulled into the box.

I need the black stopper so our hose does not rewind thu opening. I bought two containers and only one came with that part. How do I get that part.

Went to Home depot in Chico CA and they are out of the boxes. So I need to get that directly thru you or Suncrest.
Asked by: Ronb66
The stopper should have came with the device. I would return the one that did not have the stopper and get a replacement that will.

Updated this item

This model does not get good reviews. When was the last time it has been updated? There are two model numbers, one model seems to get better reviews. Is one of them newer than the other? I was hoping to purchase one until I read the reviews. Thank you
Asked by: Judy
All the Suncast water-powered auto-rewind hose reels are powered by the same mechanism on the inside, Judy, the valve assembly and the engine. The differences are in the exterior design. For each, water enters from the leader hose into the unit when the faucet is turned on. With the valve handle in the REST position, the hose can be pulled out and used as needed. To rewind hose, the valve handle must be moved to the REWIND position. Water pressure operates the motor. The hose reel will only rewind when the water source is on and the lever is in the REWIND position. The reel rotates, the hose winds in, and water exits out the discharge hose. Each of the different models has been engineered to work as intended for the consumer. With proper care and maintenance as detailed in the manual, the consumer can expect to use his auto-rewind hose reel for years to come. We appreciate your concerns, Judy, and thank you for thinking of Suncast for your garden needs.

125 ft. Aquawinder Auto Rewind Hose Reel is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 63.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working well for now Product well for now. However, my concern is about longevity. I purchased this one to replace the same one that was purchased about 2 years ago. I like the product when it works which is why I bought it again. I just hope that I get a longer useful life this time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too bad… Brilliant Engineering… Almost. Suncast ALMOST gets it right. The mechanism that transfers the energy of water pressure to leverage for turning the reel is actually pretty amazing. They use three pistons (at least in the one that I tore apart) coupled to an ingenious valve system to crank the reel round and round. It's a fairly complicated but very will conceived system that, in itself, works pretty well. BUT… apparently to save a few cents of production cost, the engineers used weak and non-durable material in some very critical places and those quickly fail. On my hose reel the element that switched the flow of water from the hose you water plants with to the piston mechanism completely locked up - to the point the switching handle broke off. I have a passion for fixing things and I'm pretty good at it but there was just no practical way I could repair the problems (some swollen and torn O-rings deep within the mechanism and some other very flimsy cast-plastic parts). Some soft plastic gears and cogs are also a problem and were on their way to failure too, so I had to trash the whole thing. Too bad - "for want of a nail… a battle was lost."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love NOT having to crank and manually rewind a long hose! This is my second no-crank hose reel. It's a great investment for me. I especially like the java color; the 'white' ones show grass stain and dirt much more. I do wish there was some way a buyer could reverse the side of the reel that shows the hoses emerging. But that is because of the configuration of my faucet and gardens. It would also help if a brass connector would be on the hose reel. Plastic is SO liable for stripping. One just has to be super careful when attaching.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love It But... Great product at first but not perfect. First, this reel is rated for a 125ft hose but when I put a 100ft hose it barely fit. Second, I have had this reel for about four to five months and the lever to turn the reel on just broke off, now I have to use pliers to turn the reel on and off. This might have been due to the extreme heat Texas has had and the plastic might have gotten brittle. This product needs an improvement with better lasting parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Back Saver My son gave me a 100 foot, half inch garden hose for a house warming gift. Great for getting to the hard to reach areas, but a bit of a back ache to manage the pick up and storage. The Aquawinder Hose Reel makes it very convenient to use the hose and to keep it neatly stored away. I studied previous reviews on this product and I have to agree with some that it is a shame that the US manufacturers didn't use metal gear trains and structural members. Hence my quality rating of good, not excellent. I choose to protect my investment by pulling the hose out directly in front of the unit and then placing the hose in front of it again before allowing the Aquawinder to rewind the hose. This means I don't have to anchor the box and the plastic gear train doesn't experience high forces caused by a hose coming in from an angle. The unit has been in service for 2 months with light use so far. Hope I can have a good report like this in a couple of years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Plastic Parts Purchased approximately 6 months ago, now it the trash bin. First..the plastic hose guide broke, then the water valve handle broke, then the plastic gears quit working. I have always been careful to help the hose along with little to no effort for the hose reel. This unit has too many cheap plastic parts for the price. Will never buy another one again. Suggest you stay away as well!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They're great while they last This is the 4th hose reel from this company i have purchased. They last about 3 years before the internal gears quit working properly and a new one has to replace it. However, if your wife struggles to wind up a garden hose or you are getting up there is age, the ability to just push a lever to wind up the hose is a definite relief.
