Answer:
According to the 2015 IRC you are allowed to have untempered glass in the bathroom. The catch is that the bottom of the glass must be a minimum of 60" from the walk-able surface below.

I have 5 vents (23.75 x 7.75) in my basement glass block windows and want to weatherproof them for winter. I was told I could buy glass inserts that snap into the vents on the inside to winterize the vents and cut draft. Anyone know where I can get these?

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor window gasket; Can see through corners There is a flexible gasket around the glass casement. When the window is in the closed position, it is supposed to press up against the frame and form a seal. The unit I received has such a poor gasket, you can see through the cracks to the outside. If this were going in a shed or something, no big deal. However, this was going to go in a bathroom in the Northern Midwest. Having 1/4" of no protection to the elements just doesn't make sense in this climate. Thoroughly inspect your unit before installation. Other than that, a great window at a bargain price. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ok for a Hopper Window Installed on lower level of my ranch home in the back, on the southern exposure. It replaced a wooden window that was badly rotted out by the weather. The former window was a security risk as well as not well suited to our weather conditions. The plastic Tafco window is better suited to the weather conditions in this seaside area and small enough that not even a child could shimmy thru it. The glass is diffused, but it allows enough light into the basement (and fresh air if you want it) to satisfy the building codes. Negatives: not Energy Star rated, and the plastic that it's made of seemed kind of flimsy. Positives: clean and attractive looking, secure, easy to install, easy to use. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic frame not as rigid as I hoped Window was exactly what I wanted, but had no assembly instructions. It does NOT come with mounting brackets (like you might expect to help fit an opening with variable depth or dimensions). Without instructions I could not figure out exactly how to mount it so had to guess. I made the mistake of sealing it into my opening with expandable foam which, as it expanded and hardened, warped the plastic frame and makes opening it a bit difficult. i.e. you can't use the window by itself to keep it straight - perhaps a very low expansion foam/adhesive might be OK. If you want to foam it in place, I suggest you make two snug fitting plates (wood) that fit into the inside of the frame, one on each side, and use them to keep the frame aligned while the foam sets. Also, it's smooth white plastic - not the easiest material to paint over. Otherwise it was perfect for my application. July 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Weak plastic locking handle Window is ok except for the flimsy plastic locking handle. I'm looking for metal replacements to correct this. July 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Vent window Good product for a shed or something similar. Plastic frame is not to sturdy. Still good for the price June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by looks great, easy to install and very sturdy this product is very steady, looks great, sturdy screening June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good little window I used it in a upstairs bathroom rehab to add a little light to the room. It works nicely. April 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hopper window Window info did not say it was for brick wall. I would recommend it. But make sure your using it on a brick home. December 8, 2015
