Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by amanda I needed a small window at ground level in my basement because my larger window and window well were failing and in a bad spot. This window fit great and lets in a lot of light for its size. However, I made the mistake of installing it upside down, and it leaked profusely around the bottom (really top) and sides when I checked it for water proofing with a hose. I ended up having to seal the window with silicone since I did not want to flip it (plus I am not certain it would have been that much more water-tight the correct way). This was an ok option as I did not install the window for ventilation, just for light. In the end, I am very happy with how the project turned out.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by James Poor window gasket; Can see through corners
There is a flexible gasket around the glass casement. When the window is in the closed position, it is supposed to press up against the frame and form a seal. The unit I received has such a poor gasket, you can see through the cracks to the outside. If this were going in a shed or something, no big deal. However, this was going to go in a bathroom in the Northern Midwest. Having 1/4" of no protection to the elements just doesn't make sense in this climate.
Thoroughly inspect your unit before installation. Other than that, a great window at a bargain price.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ProjectSue Ok for a Hopper Window
Installed on lower level of my ranch home in the back, on the southern exposure. It replaced a wooden window that was badly rotted out by the weather. The former window was a security risk as well as not well suited to our weather conditions. The plastic Tafco window is better suited to the weather conditions in this seaside area and small enough that not even a child could shimmy thru it. The glass is diffused, but it allows enough light into the basement (and fresh air if you want it) to satisfy the building codes. Negatives: not Energy Star rated, and the plastic that it's made of seemed kind of flimsy. Positives: clean and attractive looking, secure, easy to install, easy to use.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Plastic frame not as rigid as I hoped
Window was exactly what I wanted, but had no assembly instructions. It does NOT come with mounting brackets (like you might expect to help fit an opening with variable depth or dimensions). Without instructions I could not figure out exactly how to mount it so had to guess. I made the mistake of sealing it into my opening with expandable foam which, as it expanded and hardened, warped the plastic frame and makes opening it a bit difficult. i.e. you can't use the window by itself to keep it straight - perhaps a very low expansion foam/adhesive might be OK. If you want to foam it in place, I suggest you make two snug fitting plates (wood) that fit into the inside of the frame, one on each side, and use them to keep the frame aligned while the foam sets. Also, it's smooth white plastic - not the easiest material to paint over. Otherwise it was perfect for my application.

Window is ok except for the flimsy plastic locking handle. I'm looking for metal replacements to correct this.
