Answer:
If I used them outside It would be for a short period of time and I would gp grease the jack screw lightly and make sure I had a base block or 4x4 under it on a level surface or concrete slab..

Answer:
It will rust. This is what H.D. says about it online; "It is ideal for correcting sagging floors and basement beams and providing secondary support for room additions, remodeling projects, porches and decks." It does say secondary support. P.T. lumber set on concrete is good.

Home depot does not sell the plates. However, they do sell steel plates that you would have to take to your local machine shop to have them cut to size, drill the four mounting holes and center hole and press the center for the adjuster bolt pin. Unfortunately that would not be cheap. You can do this your self if you have the tools and the know-how. I'm not sure if Home Depot sells the hardware. You may have have to go to a hardware store to buy the bolts and cap nuts. I would suggest stainless steel because they rust less and are of better grade quality that regular steel. You may also try contacting the manufacturer to see if they will sell these items directly to you or through Home Depot. I hope this info helps you with your project. Read Less

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too tall for what we needed. They didn't carry the shorter one so I had to take it back. It is what it is and would have worked if our space wasn't so short. We have a very small crawl space and we bought this before realizing how skinny the crawl space was. Maybe a cat could crawl in the area. So we're going to have to use something much smaller to lift a beam that the flipper cut and allowed the floor to dip. One nail is not enough! August 30, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by leveling this old house made my own mine is best. Not to many people now how to level a house properly i do April 3, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by So So Jack Post This is an inexpensive jack post and should be used as such. The steel plates on either end are very lightweight and will bend under even moderate pressure. The best jack posts have much thicker plates. Still, it got the job done. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Flawed product I bought two of these to use as temporary support for a porch reinforcing project. I opened the first and manipulated the screw and found the threads damaged. I was about to get my file out and start correcting the problem when I noticed several other thread blemishes and decided to open the second one. It had similar problems. I suspect the problem is the way that it is packaged along with the bolts and the manner in which these heavy items are handled in shipment. The good news is that Home Depot refunded my purchase without a question. July 8, 2016
