Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 2656 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by My second Toro mower. Maybe my last? I work in the small engine field and I trust the Toro name. I like the "old style" Briggs side valve motor. It is very long lived and I like the personal pace drive system. My issue is with the frame/chassis. It rusts quickly. I clean my machines and have them in a shed. My last Toro rusted through on top of the deck and started to spray me with grass clippings. The bail handle area was also bubbly with rust. I bought another. So far, so good. This one I painted the undercarriage with undercoating. I've never encountered another mower that rusted at all, much less one that rusts all the way through the frame! This may be my last Toro. Time will tell. October 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice I originally was going to buy a Honda but saw a in a review and then I double-checked in the owner's manual about how they are not supposed to be used on hills greater than 20 degrees. I needed a lawn mower to use on a steep hill in my backyard that you can see in the picture. So that ruled out buying a Honda. My previous Craftsman mower had front-wheel drive. This rear-wheel drive Toro does much better on my hill. It has no problems getting up the hill with little effort. The personal pace system took some getting used to but I don't have any problems with it. I have used it for three mowings so far and it has started on the first or second pull each time. This model does not have a folding handle or upright storage feature that some of the other models have but if you don't need that this lawn mower works great. I tried hooking on the garden hose to clean under the mower. It doesn't seem to be worth the hassle. It doesn't remove anything that is stuck on real good. It seems easier to tip the mower a bit and use a screwdriver to loosen any stuck-on grass. It was the same with my Craftsman. August 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good.... I only gave it an overall of 4 stars as it doesn't have all that much traction going up hills, so you have to help it along a little bit. But Toro does make an all wheel drive, which I didn't think I needed to spend the extra $ on. And lastly, on the flats, it cuts great and mulches even better, just it is not as fast as my 10 year old Honda engine Craftsman with rear wheel drive, but that might be because the engine is a tad smaller on this Toro. For normal lawns, this unit will be more than adequate. Setting up the mower was simple, and the wash port for the deck works as promised. September 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by To be decided Came with one plastic wheel adjustment lever broken - was still able to move wheel to proper position and since it is a one time wheel adjustment for lawn cutting, I did not return the item......very hard to start on initial gas tank fill....almost gave up....but pulling handle made it start after that....really needs to have a choke button to get gas moving to engine ahead of yanking.....cuts great and self propel is great and handle is at good height so I am not bent over - but the item is difficult to pull backwards when operating due to its weight or design - you need backwards pulling when doing corners or edge of lawn backed up to a forest area as I have. Considering a piece of the item was broken on arrival to house, I cannot recommend it. October 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not comfortable or up to the job I bought this mower and returned it after one use. Where do I start? To begin with, it is uncomfortable. The height is too low. My wife & myself are between 5'9" & 6' tall, we had to stoop over due to the low handle position. Not good. The handle slides in & out to engage the drive. This was somewhat annoying. It also lacked power. We had to cut our mowing pace in half to keep from bogging it down too much. Ran out of gas. Old mower could easily do whole yard on one tank. I had to return unit. Purchased a Husgvarna with 160cc Honda engine for the same price, higher handle height, has plenty of power, less time, less fuel! Toros used to be rock-solid as far as construction & durability. Not so much any more. October 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mowedf Over Mower started on the first easy pull. Each wheel has mower height adjustment. Powers right through Florida grass (Bahia/St. Augustine mix). I have yet to see any clumps of clippings. Personal pace feature takes a little bit of getting used to. Last mower had a failing front wheel drive which needed help, so now I have to learn to curtail my arm movements or the mower speeds up or slows. Second use went much smoother. Self-propelled speed is controlled by handle. If the handle is pushed forward, the mower speeds up and vice versa. Love the hose attachment to clean under carriage. September 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Satisfactory Performance I was pleasantly surprised when it started on the first pull. The mulching action worked well and I no longer needed to stop and empty the clippings from the bag. The personal pace allowed me to walk faster and mow the lawn in less time. The mower is lighter than my old one and much easier to handle up and down inclines and around obstacles. I would recommend this lawn mower to a friend. October 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just always check the oil I got one of these mowers and it works well but I would warn you to always check the oil level each time before you use it and change the oil in this mower at least once and better twice each mowing season. It is easy to change and doesn't take much oil. If you ever use the mower when the oil is low or too old you will damage the engine before you even realize what you have done. Also I found that there were times the mower simply wouldn't start, like something serious was wrong but when I put in a new spark plug it would start right up and run just fine again. I've had mowers that you never had to change the sparkplug but not this one so keep an extra on hand. Other then these two concerns I would highly recommend this mower. I failed to stay on top of my oil and now have to replace it but I'm going to get another one just like it and do a better job checking the oil this time. October 9, 2016
