You can start in one corner of the room and lay one piece down andrun the length of the room making sure it is straight. When you start the second row I suggest you cut a foot off and run it all the way up on the third row I would cut two foot off and run it all the way up .then start back with a full piece and run all the way then next row cut again then next row cut and then next row will be full again
What you want to do is stagger the ends so that they are not in line.Youc an cut the pieces any length you want just I suggest keep them the same .You can cut them smaller if you like and just have more
lines in the floor

Answer:
Hi Hombino, each case is just under 20 square feet, that's like a 10 foot X 2 foot room or any combination equaling 20 square feet. Square footage is determined by length times the width of a room. That number will then tell you how many cases of flooring you need. Yes these planks can be shortened. That is a good idea anyway, to offset the look of the floor.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Durable - Beautiful - Easy to Work With After seeing how well resilient plank flooring looked and held up to traffic in a local Walmart, I decided to check it out. I got samples from several different companies and multiple styles from each supplier. I lined them all up and drug a knife across them to see how easily each sample scratched. The Allure Ultra Fairfield Oak showed the least scratch of any of them, so that's what we decided to go with. We placed about 1000 square feet of the flooring in two bedrooms, a dining room, the kitchen, and the laundry room, doing the work in our "spare" time. We started about 3 years ago and laid the last plank this past weekend, The most recently placed section butted up against the first section we did. I was impressed how well the flooring held up. Not a whole lot of difference between the 3 year section and the new section, In fact the older section looked a little more like real wood than the new section. We live in an area with a lot of mud and snow and have four big dogs going in and out all day, so the flooring got a pretty good test. I would recommend this flooring. I'll pass along a few things I learned in the process. The flooring is easy to work with. I had only installed carpet and ceramic tile prior to using Allure Ultra. It is certainly easier to install than either of those. Make sure the floor is as flat as you can make it before laying the flooring - use a floor skim coat if the surface has humps and holes. Make sure old nails and staples are not protruding - take a flat point shovel and scraping the surface to make sure they don't protrude. It helps to make joints tight by lightly tapping on a scrap piece of flooring locked into the piece you are laying. If a gap does appear after a while - don't sweat it. Armstrong make an acrylic filler (Number 12) that matches well with the Fairfield Oak and seems to work well. July 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great solution for a basement bathroom We installed this flooring in our little bathroom in our family room and It looks great. Like anything you work with for the first time you have to learn and gain a skill level in working with the product. It was easy to work with and I can't get over how nice it looks. November 8, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent Flooring, Challenging Install I've installed three laminate floors in the past, and I found the Trafficmaster Allure Ultra flooring install to be more difficult than the others. The vinyl plank flooring is easier to cut, but interlocking the planks and getting the seams tight was a bit of a challenge - it seemed like I had to wrestle a bit with every plank. The Trafficmaster Allure Ultra Tapping Block (also sold by Home Depot) was definitely worth the investment. Now that the floor's down, it looks good, and appears to be pretty durable. January 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really great, for our application We were re-doing our laundry room, where there's furnace, water heater, and washer & dryer. Linoleum floor was original, dating to mid-1960s. We needed a water-proof material, and something easy to install. This was available briefly in our local HD store, where we saw it. When we went to buy it, the store no longer carried it, and we had to purchase on-line. That took several days to "process," then 4-5 more days to ship cross-country to CA. The product arrived and was indeed just right, and pretty easy to install. Had one box left over, and was able to return it to the local store for full refund. Used 4" wood baseboard trim, and it went well with the flooring. July 24, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by final product looks great! I give it 4 1/2 stars. I had trouble getting the hang of installing,; after that it went well and was pretty easy. It would have been nice if I had some better 'tips' on laying it! for example, when I cut some small pieces to use as tampers to hammer the planks together it did the trick. eg; using a 'small' side piece to tamp the 'long' side in, and vice-versa. cutting was easy, we're happy with the end result! I laid it over linoleum-like flooring, no problems there. Also, tucking the first corner in was tricky, if you could not put the interlocks all way to the corners, it would make it MUCH easier to install! November 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Couldn't be happier My brother is a contractor, but I have never installed flooring, We were able to install this in an entire house and it looks amazing. My brother's talent is partially responsible, but also, the product itself installs easily, cuts easily, fits together perfectly, etc. We were all impressed and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to install a new floor. I was amazed that piece after piece came out of the box in perfect form. It's intricately made yet totally reliable. If you want to bullet proof your floor, this is the way to go. October 10, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality I ordered 4 boxes for installation into a basement bedroom. At least 20% of the product was damaged- the rubber grips were either bent out of shape or already falling off. I suppose I should have returned it all to HD, but frankly, when you're half way done with the job you hate to stop. Due to defects, I didn't have enough to finish and now I have to wait 2 weeks to get another box delivered. I ordered 2 because i'm expecting more issues. I found this to be very difficult to work with, regular laminate clicks together much better. Then again, I was half way done before my daughter pointed out the defects in the rubber which is probably why I was having such a hard time. I did read all instructions and watched every video on YouTube I could. Does it look ok? It's fine for a room that I don't care about. I wish I would have chose the Allure Vinyl instead. This is actually the 2nd time i received such damaged flooring from HD. The first time was for an install in another part of the house and the installer wouldn't install it because of the damage. Starting to see a trend I think. August 12, 2014
