I live on a top floor condo, and will be removing my carpet and want to replace all of my flooring (carpet and sheet vinyl) with the TrafficMaster Allure Ultra 7.5 in. x 48 in. 2-Strip Black Walnut Resilient Vinyl Plank Flooring. Is it recommended to put anything under this product when installing? I know from what I have read that this can be installed over the existing sheet vinyl that I have in my bathrooms, kitchen and wash area, but is there anything I need to put down in the area of where the carpet was?
Also, if I have Home Depot install it, will their installation be covered under warranty if something is wrong with how it was installed?

Answer:
No you do not need to put anything down under where the carpet was if the floor is level with no cracks. If cracks exist you will need to use a floor leveling product on those areas.

Answer:
I called the manufacturer on this one. They told me DO NOT install any underlayment at all, especially any foam type like used for other floating floors or it will cause issues.
We have done several floors with this product and it is easy to install, looks fantastic and is easy to maintain

Answer:
Thank you for your questions...the only recommended underlayment that would be needed is if you were installing the product in a high moisture area over concrete. Knowing that you are on the top floor of your condo complex then that should not be the case. Home Depot will know exactlly what is needed and yes, the warranty is completely covered when Home Depot installs the product.

you will need to order 2 boxes, you have to realize that there most likely will be a small amount of waste created by making necessary cuts.

Answer:
I can't answer the warranty part of your question. However, I would, to be on the safe side, put down a vapor barrier. Home Depot sells a heavy duty plastic on a roll. This should keep out any moisture or mold from forming on your flooring.

Much easier than peel and stick version and thicker as well. The sample take home square in the store is misleading though and is much thinner than actual product. We had to sand sub floor so new floor would match up with old. We didn't want to use a transition strip, so it would be nice if store samples were same thickness. Also, more directions on which pattern to use and which style to use would be nice. It got a little confusing near the end. Overall nice product and good for first times. Very easy! By the way, we tore out 3 layers of linoleum, 1/2 in plywood, then another layer of original 50's linoleum....just to get down to sub floor. Then put this floor down. It feels great on the feet and NO tripping on the transition anymore. Yea!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Allure ultra vinyl plank flooring We recently had a flood from a local river. Had 30+ inches of water in our home for 4 days. This flooring did not move or come apart. I cleaned up one of the planks and it still looked new. The laminate tile in the rest of our home swelled and popped up. Highly recommend allure ultra vinyl tile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good, easy to install This floor is super easy to install. The main thing is to make sure the underlayment is completely flat. In my case, in order to get it to match the level of the surrounding floor, ceramic tile on one side and hardwood on the other, I leveled the underfloor with compound, then screwed down 5/8" MDF to the top of it and applied 1/8" cork to the top of that. Any cracks in the underlayment will eventually show up in this floor if you don't spend a lot of time getting that ready. Once that's ready, all is well. These snap together and are reasonably flexible. It's easy to cut an end piece to size just by scoring it with a utility knife and snapping off the excess. Even strange cuts are fairly easy to make just by scoring the top of the tile and then snapping the unwanted bit off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking, easy to install, warmer I am a carpenter by trade and this is the easiest laminate flooring I've ever put down. The flexibility makes it extremely easy to work around those tight cuts. Save a couple small falloff pieces for tapping blocks for those few spots that need some persuasion. One review I read said they wasted a lot of material "lining" up all the seams, don't do this. Laminate flooring is supposed to look like wood floor and wood floors are all random board lengths. When you have falloff on one end of the room use it as a starter for the next course. And of course vacuum between courses if it's collecting dirt or sawdust. It's warmer to the touch and quieter to walk on (especially for my dog) than the regular types of laminate floors, I think because of the rubber backing. It also saves a lot of time and money because you don't have to use underlayment. My biggest piece of advice is Take Your Time, if you're getting frustrated with something take a break get a new outlook before you come back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful look and easy installation this product is a little costly but was the perfect choice for my basement floor. Looks great, was easy to install, and the possibility to take up and reinstall again if I ever need to was a feature that sold me on it. Be sure to calculate the best starting point and what length plank to start with and the rest is a breeze. My basement was full of furniture, toys, clothes, appliances, air hockey table, pool table, and a surround system and I was still able to install this flooring. The pool table was a challenge but I was able to use a floor jack to lift one end at a time (took two lifts on each end) and run the flooring under each leg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied We installed the Allure Ultra in our kitchen 4 weeks back and are very satisfied. Let us be honest that despite a ricy textured and wood grain, one can easily tell it apart from hardwood. I like the strong vinyl material - it does not scratch and has maintained its lustrous appearance. The color and pattern are both beautiful and the seams are virtually invisible. Even though installation is a snap we had it by HomeDepot because of my bad back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend This is the second time we have installed this flooring in our home. We love it. Very durable and easy to clean. We have two large dogs and there are no scratches on our floors. You can't tell the difference between the flooring that we installed 4 years ago and the new flooring. I would recommend this flooring to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Look! Easy to Install. We chose this produce for a walkout finished basement (studio) apartment because we could install it directly on top of the concrete with no need for a subfloor. Plus, it's waterproof, so we could run it through the kitchen and right into the bathroom & laundry room. As an introduction, my only previous experience with laying flooring was laminate in our upstairs family room, and for that we had help from a very handy friend & his saw. For this project, though we had a contractor do some of the renos, to save money, I was flying solo on the flooring (my bf recently had surgery & therefore couldn't help much), so I liked that I wouldn't need much in the way of tools. Was it the "Easiest Floor Ever!" as promised on the box? Well, it was at least as easy as the laminate, and I didn't need any power tools -- just a sharp exacto-knife, straight edge and a measuring tape. I'd also recommend a pair of pliers for snapping off small pieces if you have to score around a door frame or floor vent, etc. as well as a hammer/mallet (though it's supposed to be simple click & lock, there were a few times that it didn't seem to lock tightly enough, and the hammer came in handy to tap it more into place). I also found gloves and kneepads invaluable, as your hands will take a beating snapping the planks after scoring them. All in all, it took me roughly 3 eight hour stretches to lay about 400 sq feet, which may seem like a lot, but really it was just all the doorways, posts, and walls I had to work around. If it had simply been a 20'x20' room, I'm sure I could have finished it in only 4 of 5 hours! Unfortunately, I had to do a 16'x11' room, transitioning into a galley-style kitchen, two closets, a bathroom, long hallway, and laundry area -- and I basically did it all by myself, so 24 hours ain't bad. Now that we've lived on it for a month, I can say it seems: * durable (we walk directly from outside to inside with no problems, and where we accidentally scratched it sliding a big piece of furniture into the corner, the scratch doesn't really show unless you bend down to look), * waterproof (no signs of problems in the bathroom or where water puddles from our shoes) * and best of all, it's beautiful - definitely the most often complimented feature when friends come by to see our renovations. --> To avoid the type of scratch we caused, I'd recommend felt protectors on the feet of your furniture. That seems to do the trick. Of course, the problem with all dark coloured floors is that dirt/dust is really obvious, but it's easy enough to do a quick sweep with the broom. There are a few places where I could have gotten the planks a little tighter, but as usual, you always notice the flaws in your own work more than anybody else. I've been assured that nobody else seems to notice these places (And no, they're not a product of expansion/compression as I noticed them before I'd even finished the project, but figured it was too much of a hassle to worry about pulling up all my work back to that point to fix it.) Overall, we love it and have received many compliments. Our contractor even asked for the product name/colour so he could install it at his wife's business. Honestly, my only complaint is how sore my hands and knees were after installing it all! (And I imagine that would have been true for any product.) It's beautiful and was fairly simple to install (even for an amateur like me). Getting it during a flooring sale made it an even better deal!
