Answer:
It comes with a coil which I simply straightened slightly inserted in the door latch and then bent back to original shape and now the coil is mounted to the door latch and works perfectly.

Answer:
It comes with a coil to pull door open safely but the latch itself does not have a coil. I haven't been burned operating my stove but you should always wear leather protective gloves while loading fuel or tending to your barrel stove.

There is always danger to a home from a wood stove due to the fact that it doesn't burn with a constant temperature like electric or gas. How long will the barrel remain usable until the bottom burns out? Do you recommend placing a grate in the barrel?

Answer:
I installed a grate in mine. It improves burning as the logs don't lay on the bottom and therefore get a good air circulation to aid combustion. You can buy them online but, I just wired together some #3 rebar into an elongated # turned it at an angle to get it in the door them laid it down. It keeps the logs about 2-3" off bottom allowing cool air from vent in under the logs.

Answer:
You can place a grate in the stove, we do recommend lining the bottom with sand or firebrick. The grate is just an accessory if you choose to purchase it.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 40 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Double Barrel Stove; works well I built a double barrel version of a barrel stove using this kit and the double barrel kit to increase heat exchange efficiency. I am raising the temperature in a 30x80 un-insulated pole barn by 10 degrees with one load of firewood. I am sure that I could raise it more if I burned more wood. I recommend this system. Total cost, including both kits, stovepipe, elbows, fire sealant caulk to go around the parts, insulated 4x8 sheet for heat reflector and paint was $182. February 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great for desposing of yard debris or heating the outside deck. I easily cut barrel with a grinder and cleaned edges with a file. Drilled holes and mounted door and exhaust damper with the hardware included. April 16, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stove kit First time using wood stove for heat, decided to get this kit. I installed everything burned off the paint from the barrel then repainted using Rustoleum high heat black paint. Turned out nice. I use this to heat my cabin 270sqft with 13ft high ceilings. Does excellent job at heating. Had a little bit of a learning curve to use this set up. I had to build everything on a small budget to get away from propane and electric space heaters which were killing my wallet. I spent roughly $250 completely installed and heating the cabin. I had same little troubles with drafting that others have mentioned, but, I added another 24inch section of pipe to the top of my stack and bam this thing is perfect now. So if you have issues with it not drafting good try that. February 9, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works ok I contacted the manufacture and they had told me that this kit would work with a 30 gallon drum. Once I received the drum kit I found, yes it will work, but it really is made for a 55 gallon drum. The legs, I was only able to get one bolt on a side. The contour was two wide to get both bolt per side of the leg kit. Also with much hammering and some kiln blanket material I was able to get the adapter for the chimney pipe to seal to the drum. The same problem also was here. The contour of the cast for the stack is designed for a 55 gallon drum, not a 30 gallon drum. The quality is ok at best, I would be afraid to drop any of the castings, look a bit flimsy, but for the price I really did not expect any thing less. January 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by works good. They say you can use this kit on 55 or 30 gallon drums ...not so much the 30 gallon (for me). The legs don't match up to the drum good like the do on the 55. Also I think you should mount the door on the bung hole side of the drum with the large bung hole on the bottom at the 6 oclock location for additional ventilation, use a 2" pipe nipple threaded in with a couple of inches left on it to help with keeping sparks from popping out of the drum. I also place my ash bucket under it for additional safety, my drum is sitting on cinder blocks and the floor is wood. There is a lot of good info on you tube about building and use of these kits, the only difficulty I had was reaching to get the nuts threaded onto rear leg mounting bolts. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value1 Took me about 45 minutes to cut my barrel and assemble my stove. It works like a champ, my barn/woodshop is toastie now! February 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by This product was okay. This product was okay for the price. This fireplace needs a better dampening system to it, the air flow is not quite sufficient. Does put out good heat for a small shop. January 19, 2014
