Answer:
Most of us use the phrase "righty tighty, lefty loosy. Turn right to tighten, turn left to loosen. This is a right hand thread. My Ryobi is just the opposite. Turn left (counter clockwise) to tighten, turn right (clockwise) to loosen. Left handed thread.

Answer:
Not sure what you mean by bolt size? It is possibly the opposite thread version of a 5/16-18. But unless you just happen to keep odd-ball left handed thread bolts that happen to match this item, purchase a couple of these as spares. The red housing gets worn thru or destroyed way before the threaded area needs replaced.

Answer:
It is the "bump" part that needs to be pressed while running to advance the line. Most straight shaft trimmers are left hand thread. (Red retainer)Curved shafts, right hand thread. (Black retainer)

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Don't purchase this unless you want to spend $10 over and over again. Buying rubber leg tips that fit over the red retainer is a much better solution at 4 for $2.50 than spending $10 repeatedly on a new spool retainer. The one I use works excellent and I think has made the product better than the original design. Just my 2 cents. Trying to help you save money and get the most out of your product! July 13, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Price for thie product is too high I use my weed eater everyday and these wear down too fast and cost $10 dollars a peace. Too much. December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Always need a spare This is a main consumable that if you're trimming any areas which the terrain is anything other than a lawn you should keep a spare. I gave it an average rating because that's all it is. It's Plastic, It's going to wear out, you're use and terrain will determine how quickly. Just like the twisted string line for the 40V Expand-it Trimmer, HD in their unbelievable wisdom, does not stock these consumables at the store, only on-line. Be sure to order well in advance.
