Customer Questions & Answers

Does a Roofer install this item or can a handyman install it

My concern is disrupting the roof shingles or is this something that is mounted on top of the roof shingles.
Asked by: Julie
A roofer would be the ideal to install the unit on your roof however you would still need a licensed electrician to hook it up. The unit does not sit on top of the shingles. It is slid up underneath the shingles to retain complete water tightness. This is how a roofer would do it or anyone who knows how to do it. Some Electrical contractors familiar with the installation requirements could do the entire install with out involving a roofer. Its not rocket science but you still have to know what yor doing. The only roof shingles that would be removed are the ones where the hole is and just below the hole.

Will a roof vents help cool my roof if I already have ridge venting?

Asked by: Heatingup
Hello Heatingup. We would not recommend installing a power attic roof ventilator with existing ridge vents in place. This could cause the ridge vents to act as intake instead of exhaust, and could potentially cause the ridge vents to pull moisture into the attic if/when wet conditions exist.

If I had two on top off my roof side by side would that be consider 3200 cfm

Asked by: Confused1
Yes, combining the fans will give an overall cfm of 3200, however there is a caveat with using this style of installation. If one fan is on while the other fan remains off, the fan will draw all of its air in from the non-operating fan and not provide ventilation to the rest of the attic space.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance for the $$$ I purchased and installed this fan for a customer. I was replacing a similar fan with a plastic dome that was trashed. Simple to install, this fan will replace an attic vent if you enlarge the cutout. I priced similar products through professional supply companies and they were much more expensive and moved less air. My customer said there was a noticeable difference in the homes temperature, and the fan noise was noticeable, but not loud (it was also close to the access hole). With the included thermostat, the fan won't run all the time. The fan has only been in use for about 45 days, but so far so good. Jim - Professional remodeler

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands down this is a wise investment We have installed these in several of our homes. It will without a doubt allevaite staggering heat build up in attiic spaces. In each home it has reduced our power bills by 30% in the summer in additon to making upstair rooms tolerable. Absolutley put in an attic exhaust fan before a window unit or additional HVAC system. You will be glad you did.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a very good product for the money. The roof ventilator arrived, double boxed to prevent damage during shipping. It appears to be a good quality. The finish is nice. I was surprised to see that it included a thermostat. The mounting instructions could have been more detailed for a novice handyman. I would like to see better specifications for my records.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great ! installed the fan on the patio roof . wired into our ac 5 ton condensing unit contactor and now the discharge air goes through the roof instead of being recycled constantly through the unit. dropped the patio temp 10 to 15 degrees lower. so the compressor is also running cooler.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOISY!!! Sound like a truck running from inside the house. Would never by any ventilator from Home Depot in the future nor recommended them to a friend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from May have selected solar operated Contractor required 2 1/2 hours to complete install on shingle roof. Electrical was very close to fan. Temp control adjustment very easily adjusted. Central Florida running time with temps in mid 90's requires 10-12 hours operations when set at 105 degrees. This may not be the most economical to operate.
