Will this work for larger rats? Or is this meant for smaller mice?

Asked by: RachelJ
I attach them to the corners of my "All Cedar" house, about 5 feet off the ground and it keeps the squirrels off pretty much. Works great on Raccoon fingers also.

Can i use it for field mice (vole) on my lawn?

There are several field mice (vole) in my backyard lawn, thay are about 3 inches long and dig quite some on ground pathways there.
Asked by: RidgeKnight
I have yet to catch anything with this trap. Sometimes the trap will snap and the bait is gone but nothing is caught. Sometimes the bait is gone the trap hasn't even snapped. I think a small mouse probably wouldn't set this large trap off. Try the Victor Power Kill Rat Trap (Model # M144-4, Home DepotSKU #97057). This one has a much better design and would be more likely to go off with a smaller rodent. Not sure if they make a mouse version of this rat trap. See my review below why I think this trap is much better.

How how much weight of bait can you apply to the rat trap? whats its max

Asked by: Gerardo
Apply as little as possible. A smear of peanut butter is all the attractant it takes to bring in the rat.

Had an old victor rat trap, baited with two dried cherries, one pinned under prong on copper bait plate, other dried cherry pushed onto front of bait plate. 10 adult/young rats in 10 days. Bought another trap, same bait, used both traps within 10 inches of each other, 10 more adult/young rats in 5 days. Continued to set one trap for several days, bait was not touched. Done! traps and dried cherry bait worked great. I used gloves to bait and set traps, set traps outside at night only, in partially restricted area that funnelled rats into trap area.

Sometimes the trap will snap and the bait is gone but nothing is caught. Sometimes the bait is gone the trap hasn't even snapped. These are harder to set the trap mentioned below. I have found the Victor Power Kill Rat Trap (Model # M144-4, Home DepotSKU #97057) a much better design and worth the extra dollar. I have had a hard time finding them at Home Depot at times. 1) It's easier to set without risking snapping your fingers. 2)The bait is put into little cup so the rat has to work to get it out. 3) Instead of just a piece of metal to set it off, the whole area around the bait is a platform that will set it off. 4) It's easier to reuse and remove the rat without touching it. Just push down on the metal release bar and let the rat drop into a garbage bag. Resetting it is the same procedure. Just keep pushing the bar down till it clicks.

Advice: I screw an eyebolt in the end away from the trigger to tie a twine to and then make a stake from a wire clothes hanger. The trap is then secured to the stake which I put in the ground. The rats will have a tougher job running off with the trap if not killed outright. So far I have not lost any traps using this method.

After several tries of using peanut butter as bait (which resulted in non-triggered traps), I switched to a piece of dried sausage tied with a fishing line. What usually takes a week to a month, had my first trapped mice within 24 hours. Then I checked the other 4 traps, after a week, which all 4 had successfully worked their magic. Thus, it's not the trap that doesn't work but how you set up the bait. All the 5 traps had mice, but I saw a big rat in the attic while removing the traps. So, I went to Homedepot got 5 more traps.
