How long does it take to spray a full cup (32oz)?

I used this sprayer with 8oz of stain and it blew through it all in about 10 seconds (that's not an exaggeration) leaving 3x the stain on my project as I wanted and I wasn't able to finish (ran out of stain). From using the same stain with a brush I expected to only need ~3-4oz for the job I was doing. At that rate it could empty a full 32oz (max fill) in under a minute. Do all stainers spray this fast?

Dial it down to a finer mist (it IS adjustable), don't expect stains to cover the same as paint. Maintain the recommended distance from the wood - that helps a lot. Solid color stains can use the max setting, but ("thinner") clear or semi-transparent stains cover well at the lower settings.Time your "trigger action" closer to the edges. Keeping the stain on the wood and not over-spraying takes practice. Read More

Keeping the stain on the wood and not over-spraying takes practice. I was also surprised at how quickly you can run through the contents of the cup, decided to lower my settings and by the time I finished my project, I had it dialed in. The second project went much better using significantly less stain once I had practice time and experience under my belt.
Wagoner is a great little sprayer but developing the correct technique is very important.

Answer:
I can dump five gallons of paint in less than five minutes if I turn my graco XL all the way up. You're just not familiar with the equipment. Read the owners manual, learn how to use the equipment, before you use it. You could have finished your project with a clean rag.

Answer:
You realistically could empty the container every couple of minutes if continually working and spraying. They are very high volume sprayers and will put out a lot of material in a hurry. The key is moving quickly enough to keep up with the sprayer. Also, you can adjust the paint/stain selector on the back of the sprayer. Moving it closer to the stain setting should slow the flow of material to a degree. Read More

Answer:
The Stainer series is meant for thinner liquids such as stain and polyurethane. It will struggle with latex paint and may not give a nice finish. The Flexio line of HVLP sprayers would work better for a cabinetry application. Look at the Flexio 590 and 690 systems.

Answer:
A lot of solid color stains are as thick as latex paint and therefore may need the additional power of a Power Painter 7.2.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I had to reurn this product for a larger unit to handle the job I had. No problem with the Stainer i just need a larger unit. Very nice product well built, great product just to small for some jobs. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good product good spray nozzle and little mess with stains. The only drawback is it is hard to clean. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great I have been reading many horror stories about paint guns for a long time. Decided to give this a shot for my fence. Used thompansons water seal and worked very well, saved me six hours or so, I'm hooked May 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Broke during first project plus other issues Not happy at all. Tab keeping container locked broke after about 2 hours of use. Spilled stain on my lawn because it broke. Cord is way too short causing it to unplug frequently. I was using a thin oil based stain and it still gunked up after about 30 min of use causing an uneven spray. Would require full cleaning in order to get an even spray again. Needless to say I returned it. April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 6.6 Power Stainer plus pain sprayer Using this sprayer was as easy as the directions said it would be. Clean up was as easy. We used it for trim and covering a fence. Adjusting the nozzle for the width was great. April 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Spray gun It's really easy to use and gets the job done. My husband and I used it to finish the latticework around our deck and boy oh boy did it help us out quicker than painting it ourselves. We tried to paint individually with paint brushes, needless to say the experience was horrific and very tiring. March 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sprays evenly, easy cleanup, works good I do maintenance for RV parks in Arizona. I use the power painter plus inside and out on RV's, trailers. Works very well February 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for staining fences I had to stain my mom's fence this past weekend so I purchased this sprayer from home depot. I stained the inside of her fence in the morning, then took apart the sprayer per the instructions immediately after I was done and really cleaned out the parts well. I took a break and resumed staining in the afternoon and it worked just fine. I think the key here is to make sure you clean out your sprayer immediately after use as to get all of the paint/stain out of the system so it doesn't get clogged up. After I got used to using a sprayer I was able to bang out the other side of the fence in half the time it took me to do the previous side. September 28, 2015
