Hi! Thanks for your question! Depending on the weather conditions it will take about 10-15 minutes before the coals are ready to be poured into the grill and then another 10-15 minutes before the grill will heat up to 500 degrees.

Compact Rapidfire Chimney Starter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised I was pleasantly surprised. Simply put - it does what it is supposed to do. I used one Webber fire cube and 15 minutes later had charcoal ready to cook. I was impressed by its quality construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll Never Use Fluid Again Perfect for a Smokey Joe but I also use it for a larger grill. I just have to add a few coals to the pile after they're hot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect fit for me I have the regular size starter but felt it was bulky and storing it was a problem. Also with the smaller diameter i don't see myself using as much newspaper to start with and it burns off quicker and no newspaper ashes flying onto the grate. I have a 22" weber kettle so I do fill this starter up with charcoal and after I pour onto the charcoal grate i usually add a handful or two of briquets on top since this starter doesn't hold as much initially.
