I've 10.5 foot ceilings and own a Werner 8ft aluminum ladder which scared me. Nothing wrong with it. I just never felt stable on it. First thing I did when I brought home this ladder was set it up in my living room, climb it and touch my ceiling. I had no fear of it, felt very stable and fell in love with it. It doesn't get narrow at the top, the platform/podium is a nice size and the top of it where you have ample room to place tools, etc gives me a very secure feeling. I can now finish painting my condo and can do the cut in myself. I can pick this ladder up, move it, fold it and move it all by myself. To whomever came up with this God Bless You. I suffer from vertigo issues but with that rail at the top it doesn't affect me on this ladder. Now I no longer have to ask my neighbors to change the batteries in my smoke detectors. I'm very pleased with it. I highly recommend it to anyone who has vertigo or fear of height issues. Just make sure you have someone with you when you try. I had them open it at the store for me and tried it there. Thank you Werner and Home Depot for developing a ladder that solves all kinds of problems. The lovely lavender paint was also bought at Home Depot, Bher Ultra.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HappyCustomerHere It's all about the PODIUM!
The fiberglass construction really pays off as this ladder is incredibly light! Where it really shines is the podium. Old-school ladders would caution to never stand on the top landing, meaning if you needed to swivel around you typically had to get off the ladder and reposition. With the podium you have a landing, it supports up to 300 pounds, and the ability to gain access a full 360 degrees. At the top of the ladder are multiple locations to stow hammers, drills and any other tool you could think of.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jimmy Well built and sturdy!
The Werner podium step ladder is an exceptional piece of hardware. I have been using this ladder very frequently since receiving it, from tasks such as painting, to installing ceiling fans. The highlight of this product is the podium that you are able to firmly plant your feet on without fear of falling, along side of the guard rail to keep you more secure. The guard rail also serves as a neat tool by itself. Allowing you to use the small built in tray to hold screws, nails, and fasteners while you are working. There are also two magnetic spots on the railing that can be used to hold numerous other things such as nails, tools, and bolts.
Upon initial setup I was excited to see that the ladder stood very even and firm with no wobbling issues. I also feel as though the mechanism that prevents the ladder from folding in is very secure and well built.
I am very pleased with the construction of this ladder and would recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chronicDIYer Outstanding product!
Finally, somebody designed a safe ladder. After falling off a cheap, old aluminum ladder, I decided to buy some quality, and found not only that, but a brilliant design that incorporates a working platform. Although not as versatile as a full scaffolding, the amateur handyman will find this a vast improvement over working from a standard ladder. The only disadvantage is that you cannot go above the platform. You'll still need a regular ladder to get you higher. However, in my shop and around my (single story) house, the platform is just about right for 90% of the tasks I need to do. I wish I had had this tool 40 years ago.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by enginerd The most stable step ladder I've every used.
When I first picked up the ladder I thought it wouldn't inspire a lot of confidence during use. It's relatively light for its size. Then I opened up the ladder as was immediately impressed with how smoothly and solidly it swung open. I find the easiest way to open this ladder is to stand with it squared to your chest, then grab the top of the standing platform and push it away from you, as this swings the back legs away from you and you can simply tilt the ladder down onto all four legs.
Dimensions during use:
The standing platform is 16x20 inches and is actually 3 feet 10 inches above the ground. The ladder's footprint is 44x28 inches. You can get it right up next to a wall facing any of three ways and be able to put your nose on what your working on.
Issues during use:
The ceilings in my house are range from 9 feet to 8 feet, so at 6' 1" I can't comfortably use the podium platform for long periods of time, like installing a ceiling fan. If I got my hands on a 2' 6" version, that would be the ultimate residential ceiling fan installation aid.
However, my 5' 6" wife love using this ladder to load and unload heavy items from our large long-term storage shelves mounted 7 feet up the 10 foot walls in the garage. This has been a game changer as far as I'm concerned because she no longer has to ask me to help her see what's in those boxes up there or to bring stuff down.
I can see why ladders from this company are so popular: they strike a good balance between weight and sturdiness. Usually, if any work around my house involves getting on a ladder that I can't get to with my mobile scaffolding (things above 11 feet) I contract that out. Now that I know a ladder can be this stable and convenient I will opt to get the ladder that fits the job and save myself some serious money overall. Years of using beat-down ladders has really tainted my experience with them.
I can't wait to use this ladder when I build my backyard pergola in the next few weeks. It should be the right height and stable and sizable platform with its strong weight limit should be perfect for helping installation.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JoeSeattle Much better than what I expected. Very sturdy. Really can work in all 4 directions without worrying.
Like another reviewer I was expecting the 4 feet to be measured at the top of the guard rail. Four feet is the height of the platform. 46 inches to be exact. The top of the guard rail is 6 ' 9 inches.
This is far more capable than what I expected. For the first time in 10 years I was able to vacuum my vaulted ceilings and repair two canister lights. The platform is even large enough to hold my canister vac and me with enough foot room to move in all 4 directions.
The platform is 16 x 16 inches or 16 x 20 inches if you count the step.
Top of guard rail is 6' 9 inches from floor when extended. 7' 2 inches when folded flat
The rail can hold 4 screwdrivers, a power screwdriver, a pliers, has a magnet and a cubby for about two dozen nails or screws.
The guardrail is 15.5 inches inside if you are wondering
The base is 43.5 inches deep x 27.25 inches wide in case you need to work in tight spaces like on a boat or narrow steps.
This is my go to ladder from now on if I need to do any work between 5 and 10 feet.

This is a good safe ladder, and light. It states 10 ft reach capability. However, there is no info on the total length of the ladder. It was longer than expected.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DepotDenizen Even better than it looks!
The 8-foot ladder has one BIG advantage over the regular 8-footer they don't tell you about (I compared a neighbor's on the same job). Not only is the platform amazingly useful and safe, but that little extension at the top adds 10 inches to the total height of the ladder! This means that instead of having the top platform just above your knees, and below your reach to steady yourself, you have a perfectly positioned handle to hold, and to support your hips. Changing bulbs on a 12-foot ceiling was a little nervous with a regular 8-footer, but with this, it's MUCH safer and more comfortable.
Of course, the benefits of the platform are as good as everyone says, but the added height of the grab handle (with its handy tool-holding apertures) multiplies the benefits of this ladder.
Note that if you're storing it in tight places, the 8-foot Podium ladder is nearly a foot longer than the 8-foot regular stepladder.
