Bought two of these today. Installed the first on the patio and it at least came on for a few seconds and then turned off (as it should as it's high noon.
Installed the second on the the front entrance light. Won't work under any condition. Tried orienting the direction of the light sensor, no results. Put finger over the sensor, no results. Finally removet the device, installed the new LED light and it works. The only thing that doesn't work is the light control itself. It goes back tomorrow.
I'll see if the one on the patio works tonight and in the morning. It may have to go back also.

I bought this dusk to dawn light control at the store to use at my patio, which is well-lit during the day as you can see in the pics.
I followed the instructions and installed this last night, but I woke up this morning and the light was ON even at 10:00am in complete daylight (though not sunny)... So I assume in winter this would stay ON day & night, which is not the purpose. When I point a flashlight at the light sensor it turns OFF, but even then when I point the flashlight away it does not go ON again!
I experimented for an hour trying to make it work. I tried it in an enclosed clear glass fixture and in an open fixture, with incandescent and with LED lamps, with or without the provided plugs (all 3 of them).
In my opinion this is a poorly designed system particularly in terms of sensitivity to light. I'm an electrical engineer and I know what I'm talking about.
Believe it or not this is the first time I ever return an item to the store due to being unsatisfied. I always accept the product for what it can offer but this one is just bad. Now I know why 2 out of the 3 items on the HD shelf were open items returned by unhappy customers.
Check the photos - is stays ON under daylight!

Purchased product and tested in several different locations. The light would not go off even in direct sunlight. Thought I got a bad one. Took it back and got another and had the same problem. I did notice that several of the unit's packages had been opened at home depot. This tells me that I am not the only one to have a problem. It appears the staff just puts them back on the shelf even after they have been returned.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Sunnysandiego1 Works Great with the provided plug installed in senors hole
I first tried the adapter for my outside fluorescent light and at night the light bulb started turning on and off about 30 times a minute. I read the reviews and then I realized that the adapter comes with a small plug that you can put on the sensors opening which prevents the light reflection on the sensor, so after I put the plug to the adapter's sensors opening, it worked perfectly even with my frosty light fixture housing.
Here is my explanation: Depending on your light fixture, without the provided plug, the light from the light bulb is reflected into the sensor, so the sensor thinks it is day time and it shuts off, then after it shuts off its thinks it is night time and it turns back on again, and that is why you most likely need to put in the sensor plug that comes with it that takes 1 second to install and it will work perfectly.
