We're considering the Whirlpool microwave oven model WMH32517AS. We need to know if it exhausts the heat through the front, top or back of the unit.

The fan can be flipped to exhaust out the front or the back. The unit comes from the factory with front exhaust. Remove two screws and flip the motor and you have a rear exhausting unit.

It comes from the factory set up to vent from the back or thru the wall. My previous microwave vented from the top. Just remove 2 screws and rotate the blower motor 180 degrees, replace the screws and it will vent from the top. Hardware and instructions are included.

All 3. It comes set to exhaust from the top front. You can remove a few screws and have it go out the back into a wall vent, or out the top into a hood vent. I have mine just as it came from the factory.

Crane,
The exhaust on this Whirlpool Over the Range Microwave is set to recirculate, you do not have to vent the exhaust. However, if you want to, then you can vent the exhaust either out of the top of the appliance or the rear. There are installation instructions on the product page in the Instructions/Assembly Guide if you need more clarification. Thank you for viewing this Whirlpool home appliance.

I like the way the handle looks as it blends with the rest of the stainless steel look. In spite of its sturdy feel and the way it looks, I believe the handle is not steel. The handle on the pull open door is made of a very durable plastic that does not give or feel weak in any way. This design has been used on whirlpool units for years and has been found to be more than adequate.

The maximum depth is 14 inches or the depth of the microwave. Using the templates supplied with the instructions, the install of the microwave involved me reducing the height of the cabinet above the microwave. After installation, the microwave fit perfectly under the cabinet but does stick out about an one and half inches beyond the face of the cabinets but only an inch beyond the cabinet doors. The look is just fine and leaves plenty of space above the front of the microwave for the exhaust of the fan, as I installed the microwave in the original re-circulating mode. Read Less

Make sure you use the wall mounting bracket that is in the box. Use the templates that come with the microwave and drill holes though the bottom of the cabinet. Secure using the scews with washers that are in the box. The microwave will extend past the bottom of the cabinet. This is o.k. because that is were the vent is.

If you would just take the time to review any pictures of over the range microwaves, they all stick out at least 2" past the cabinets that they are mounted in. I replaced mine with a slightly larger capacity than the original one that burned out after 15 yrs and it sticks out almost 3" and we love it.

To set the clock, press the option/clock button once, clock/energy will appear. Then options will start to scroll across the screen, press the option to set the clock. Enter the correct time of day and press start, then options will start to scroll again to set AM/PM select the desired option for the time of day. The key to doing this is reading each option very careful before making a selection.

Hi Projectmgr, you have to touch the options/clock to get the clocks sub menu.
Take a look at page 4 of the use and care manual located in the info & guides box to the right of the product overview on the web product page. This is the page for settings.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 27 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A very positive experience Purchasing the range and microwave was the first step we are taking to remodeling our kitchen and that first step was a very positive experience. The actual purchase was seamless and the delivery guys were courteous, prompt and helpful. We are happy with our selection of the Whirlpool products, with the price we paid, and with Home Depot. The Microwave is exceeding our expectations. February 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whirlpool Appliances Our previous microwave was a Whirlpool so we wanted to keep it in the same family. We've haven't had any problems with this brand which is the reason we decided to stick to Whirlpool. My husband and I installed it ourselves. It was fairly easy. We're very pleased with our purchase. We also scored a great deal with their Christmas sale. Thank you Home Depot! January 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We love it. We previously had a Whirlpool which came with our new home that lasted 9 years. After checking reviews I settled on this brand purchase. It is a lot quieter has a more solid door with a metal handle attached. It works great. I look for it to last 10 years plus. January 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the microwave. Looks and works great, much better than the Maytag it replaced. Really like the "sensor technology", dual light and fan settings, can recycle air or vent to outside, turn on/off turntable. The sale price was the clincher, but worth the "regular" price. January 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's been a month and we love it! We purchased this one after our old one died. Did some research online and found this the best deal around. The microwave it self is great and the whole family loves it. The purchase was very simple thru Home Depot website. February 4, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JUNK!!! This unit was a replacement for a whirlpool microwave which we suffered through a broken handle for years. This unit lasted about 6 months then it died and if course it was past the warranty. It would have cost just as much to replace it vs. fixing it. I have all whirlpool high end appliances and they have all broke prematurely and some point. I will never buy anything whirlpool again. December 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice so far I have only owned this microwave for about 2 weeks. So far I like the sensor cook feature to reheat left overs. Every thing needed to mount the microwave to the wall and under csbinet was in the box. You do not need to get the extra mounting kit. Make sure you measure heighth as with a different sytle of vent this one hangs about 2.5 inches lower than my old microwave that was the same size and brand. Installation instructions were little tricky. Once you figured out which way you were venting though it went up fairly quickly. January 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this microwave, it has great features. This microwave is awesome, I especially like the sensor cooking technology. Example, just cooking popcorn the microwave senses the exact weight and amount of time it will take to pop it. It has features on it to soften butter, and another feature to melt butter, reheat and to keep food warm up to 60 minutes. It has a rack that can be inserted for double cooking and also a timer built in. There are still more features preset in this microwave that I haven't used yet. January 22, 2014
