Can I cut and install this w/ a pair of 45 degree cuts to create a return for a step w/ and exposed side? Would you use an adhesive at the joint?

Answer:
As long as you use a good mitre saw or jig saw, you can safely get your angle cut.
Use a high quality wood glue to bond the joints together.

Why is there an extra groove at the front edge of the stair nose? This stair nose is differently shaped than the majority that I see on the market. Is there a diagram that shows proper installation?
Thanks!

Answer:
Hi Donny,
If you referring the front underside edge, it's so the bottom track will attach to it.
This particular stair nose is made for its laminate flooring counterpart, not only in finish, but the overall height as well.

Hi. My apologies for the delayed response as I've just begun answering these questions for my company. We supply you with a metal track which the molding snaps into, as well as screws and anchors to secure it.

Not too many options when working with engineered flooring regarding stairs. Only used piece on top landing to match rest of floor. The metal support piece that the molding attaches to is very narrow. Not sure if this is part of the design, but made it extremely difficult to attach together. I needed to use some needle nose pliars to widen it so not to break the molding like I did with a similar molding elsewhere on the floor. It does match very well and appears sturdy. If it ends up breaking down, it will be an easy repair. Had to order it online. Came packeged very well without damage. Very long as well. Ordered two in case I goofed up, plus to have enough later if damaged.

I would recommend this product with the following good and bad to consider: 1. The product matches Pergo laminate flooring of the same name perfectly. 2. The amount of stair overlap is very small meaning that if you have typical 2X10 stairs you will need to address the portion of the stair edge that this molding isn't going to cover. 3. Installation instructions are poor and almost non existent, but it isn't rocket science. 4. If you make a mistake, (I forgot to apply a bead of glue to the stair edge before installing) Result of prying back up was not pretty damage did occur. 5. They sell the pieces in 95 inch lengths, typical stairs are 35 inches or so, that means you only get 2 stairs out of each piece unless you glue the remainders together. I did that in one case and it did work quite well clamped overnight. 6. Installed nose molding is not that comfortable to bare feet or socks, but does give a secure feeling when coming up or down. 7. After all is said and done the finished installation does look quite nice

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well Worked at top of one step that we needed for. Our only issue is we ran our floor the opposite direction of the grain of the wood on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problems at all! My husband just installed these on 13 steps and I am not sure why this product received all of the negative reviews but we had no problems at all. They fit perfectly and match the floor perfectly too. I was a skeptic because of the poor reviews but so far so good here!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok but not good as a real wood To match my floor I purchased this stair nose but it is not wide as real wood oak stair nose .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice item It was easy to install and looked even better than we thought !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nosing too small The nosing for the Highland Hickory flooring is too small. The radius of the nose does not cover a subfloor thickness leaving an odd unfinished detail. We had to stain the unfinished exposed piece. Wish the radius was thicker.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stair nose These are not anywhere near durable. Made of no more than dense paper. Two of my stairs, every time they are stepped on, you can hear the paper separating from the cheap metal strip clamping the piece to the subfloor. Unfortunately there are no other options if you have decided to go with laminate flooring and want an exact match.
