I was looking for a freezer that didn't have all the electronic stuff. The more electronics the more apt you are to have problems. I just wanted a bare bones freezer and this one fit the bill. I've had it for 2 1/2 yrs. It's quiet. My computer is only 10ft., as the crow flies 8ft. from the freezer and I can't hear it. My only fuss with this freezer is it goes through light bulbs. The durn things only last a month if we're lucky. We've tried other brands of bulbs but it doesn't matter. Suckers still blow. Outside of that not a problem. Personally I consider it a small price to pay. An extra $20 (on the pricey side) for a yrs. worth of bulbs is worth it. But I do hope they might fix that problem.

We have had this freezer for less than 3 months. I went downstairs yesterday to get a box of popsicles, only to find a box of liquid. Everything in the freezer had defrosted! Thankfully we had purchased the warranty plan, although it is still under Maytag's original warranty. Repairman is coming next week. We'll see how that goes. Bought this to replace a freezer that was over 25 years old, it still worked great, but was not energy efficient...BIG mistake!

We had this delivered and installed July 11, 2012. It froze from the center down after Christmas. It was packed with now thawed meat and berries I'd gotten through coops and harvesting. I pulled everything out and went on a mad canning/dehydrating spree with my BF while we unplugged this thing and let it totally thaw for 2 days. When we turned it on it seemed to be fine - now a month later we are going through it again - and since I bought the 4 year extended warranty I knew they'd repair it. They will - the repair guy will be here in a week :( So rapid canning and dehydrating will commence again...

Purchased this freezer to replace an older one the died. We have had it about 1-1/2 yrs. MFG Date 201210. Although it is running it will not freeze our food now. I am scrambling to get another freezer today so we don't loose all our frozen foods. Seemed to be a good freezer while it worked but didn't last long.

This was a great freezer for the first few months while it worked. After 6 months I noticed that the food didn't feel well frozen. I purchased a freezer thermometer and I noticed there was problem. At first I thought we might be blocking the airflow, but after taking 1/3 of the items out and looking at the airflow diagram in the manual that wasn't the problem. The manual says it's supposed to be at 0 deg F when set on "4". It's set higher than 4 and it's keeping the freezer at about 25 degrees. I'll never buy another Maytag product again. Also, be aware that Maytag is owned by Whirlpool, who also makes these brands (from Wikipedia):
