Questions & Answers

Does this work well on vertical concrete surfaces?

Asked by: FDD
Hi FDD, I'm glad you reached out with your question. We do not recommend applying the Bonding Primer on a vertical surface. It will not adhere properly, and you may have issues with your project later on. Regards, Amanda

Will this work on a untreated bare concrete interior wall as a primer for finish paint so it will adhere better? Thank you.
Asked by: Nick
Hello Nick, Our Bonding Primer is only designed to be used for bare concrete horizontal surfaces and we would not recommend it on vertical surfaces. Best regards, Kevin

can this be colored and used as finish coat?
Asked by: spagehetti
I doubt it. The whole reason you put it down is to help paint/coating stick to the primered area. So it would probably attract dirt and the dirt would adhere to it. Also it is probably not going to wear well since it is made to be covered.

Can I use this on a concrete garage floor? 2-part epoxy coating?

Can I use this on my prepped concrete garage floor? I will be finishing it with Epoxyshield. Will this work under a 2-part epoxy coating? Thanks.
Asked by: ThandyMan
I do not think that would be a good idea. I mean, you COULD use it, but the garage floor coating is designed to go onto bare prepared concrete, right? I would be more comfortable using it as intended. This primer could be a weak link between the concrete and the topcoat.

I used this product on old deteriorating asbestos shingles on the outside of my house. One side of the house would regularly get very wet from rain and dew. The shingles became saturated right through the latex paint and primer and the paint would peel off large areas no matter what I tried. I removed the peeling paint and primer then applied this product onto the shingle surface. Before repainting I noticed that the deteriorated shingle surfaces seemed to be very much strengthened by this primer. And the shingles repelled water and could not absorb it. I then repainted with acrylic paint. After 13 months everything is holding up like new. No more peeling paint.

I rolled on the primer on Monday and then applied the concrete stain on Tuesday. The stain went on smoothly and easily due to the primer creating a bottom coat for the stain to cling to without just being "sucked into" the concrete. The primer went further than I expected so I had a bit left over; I had been worried I might run out but was pleasantly surprised at how well it went on and covered well. It is too early to say if the primer will help the stain last longer than it would have if I had omitted the primer step. It was recommended in the written instructions so I went with it to do the best job possible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It did not work. 7 days after application and painting,... It did not work. 7 days after application and painting, I was finishing the job and removing the painters tape from the baseboard moulding. I dropped a ball of the tape on the painted surface, picked it up, and OMG, the epoxy paint I used came up with the painters tape. So, I do not recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't do the job We used this primer under the Epoxy paint for a cement floor that is outdoors and covered by decking on a floor above. All instructions were followed, including roughing up the previous stained floor before applying the primer followed by the epoxy paint. The drying time instructions were all followed. However, a week or so later, it rained and the paint and primer immediately started bubbling up and popping off. You can clearly see the old stain color below (which was also a Home Depot product). So disappointed that all this time and money was spent on a project that looks worse after one week than it did before we started. Would not recommend either of these products to anyone.
