Can be used in Aluminum gutters?

Can be used in Aluminum gutters?
Asked by: Jenny
I wouldn't use it in gutters. It will quickly deteriorate. Use an appropriate glue/sealant made for gutters.

My handyman used this for my kitchen sink. I see it’s not approved for that use can it be removed and redone?

Asked by: KP
You can, and should remove it. Then use a silicone caulking rated for bath and kitchen use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy again but . . . . I have read comments indicating Dynaflex 230 absorbs moisture after drying, does not dry within the time frame published by the manufacturer, and you cannot apply paint until well after the manufacturer's specified time. OK, maybe some validity to those comments, however, drying time is based upon ambient temperature and humidity, and the moisture content of the surfaces upon which the caulk is applied. If the moisture content of the surfaces is high, and if the temperature is low, and if the humidity is high, the product takes an extremely long time to dry. If the moisture of the surfaces is low, the humidity is low and the temperature is above 75, then the product dries per the manufacturer's specifications. One note of caution. If you use a colored caulk outdoors, and you do not plan to paint over the caulk, do not use this caulk. Even after days and days of drying, if the caulk is exposed to rain the caulk surface will turn whitish. If you apply this caulk under low humidity, warm or high temperature conditions, and the surfaces are pretty dry, and you plan to paint over this caulk, this caulk is great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product never dried, is not waterproof Alright well I read some good reviews on this latex/silicone blended caulk and figured the tan would be perfect for weatherproofing some outdoor wood and keep the elements out. Anyhow I made sure it wasn't going to rain for a couple days and applied this caulk and beaded it perfectly smoothing the edges. It says it is waterproof in hours anyhow the biggest gap that it was applied to was an 1/8 of an inch and I let the product cure for 24 hours. I checked on the project the next morning and ran my hand across the caulk. My finger left an indentation in the caulk and I figured maybe it was because it was extremely flexible like the packaging says. 2 days after I did this it rained and I went outside to look and found the caulk running down the wood and onto the white siding......Well that is great. 72 hours later and the caulk still ran under the elements. Not only that it ran inside the shed too i mean come on this caulk had plenty of time to dry and I applied in in 50+ degree weather. Overall I am severely dissapointed with this product and will buy a purely silicone based product next time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 'final layer' sealant for foam board insulation panels In addition to all of the typical applications for DAP 230, it is an excellent 'final layer' sealant for XPS and polyiso foam board insulation panels. It does not dissolve the foam and remains flexible as assemblies expand and contract each day. We recently 'wrapped' the outside of a house in Massachusetts with 2" Foamular XPS panels, for example. We sealed all of the joints and edges first with the 'Windows and Doors' version of Great Stuff, which remains flexible. Then we covered all of the joints and edges with a generous layer of DAP 230, to make sure all of the air leaks were well sealed. A couple of photos are attached. I hope this is helpful. Mark

When you're buying caulk, you should be aware that, just like paint, the price is going to indicate the quality. In the caulk family, the cheapest caulk is PAINTER'S CAULK. Painter's caulk (called Dap brand Alex Painters Caulk at Home Depot) is low quality and will crack and fail within a short period of time. Painters will use painters caulk to save money. DON'T LET THEM. The next price point up is PAINTER'S CAULK WITH SILICONE (The main brand that Home Depot sells is called Dap Alex Plus). This is a better choice than plain painters caulk because it is made from acrylic, a more flexible glue that is the primary ingredient. They also add a very SMALL amount of silicone to further prevent cracking. While this is a good choice, but you can still do better. Read on. The next price point up is ELASTOMERIC CAULK. (The main brand Home Depot sells is called Dap Dynaflex 230). Elastomeric caulk is far superior than the previous 2 mentioned. It is flexible up to 50% of it's size and can be painted. It lasts YEARS. Home Depot sells it in a wide variety of colors. When I have contractors doing work on my house for me, I ALWAYS insist that they use Dynaflex 230 Elastomeric Caulk. It may cost $1-$2 more, but it is WORTH IT. In the 2 pictures I submitted, this is a large piece of Dynaflex 230 that was removed from a patio door that was changed out. It was on there for about 2 months. In the first picture noticed how much it will stretch without breaking. I could have stretched it even further (like gum, but stronger), but it was too difficult to stretch it and hold my camera and push the button at the same time! In the second picture, I have twisted it to show the flexibility. The twist is to the left of the piece. Take note that other retailers sell this product also, so it is widely available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 boxes of this sealant for our log home... And HAPPY! We purchased a log home/cabin a few months back and were researching for a while which caulk to utilize to seal the seams between the logs. We picked the "Cedar Tan" color for our project. The ease of use of this caulk even over the expandable foam makes it the "winner" in caulk category. It turns slightly darker in color with exposure to air, so pay attention to color choices and do some trials before conducting similar projects to ours. The logs contract and expand during seasons and this caulk after 6 months on our logs has proven to have the flexibility of silicone in it. We used it on internal log applications as well - no smell, no issues. Easy to clean-up while it's "fresh." Some thicker applications might take more than a day to solidify, but thereafter becomes somewhat flexible - no chipping or breaking or cracking. The log stain (Deep Mahogany) applies somewhat even and stains this caulk effectively. Now with our porch is being rebuilt - this caulk is the winner for all winterizing purposes on our log home. 5 boxes = $250 = happy log cabin with no bugs or cold air for YEARS ahead...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best caulk I've used other cheaper caulk, big mistake. Get this stuff works great, sticks well, doesn't crack or dry out. Even better if you paint over it. It doesn't like constant exposure to water so I don't use it where it could be wet for a long time. In places like that I use 100% silicon but then you can't paint over it and it's even messier to clean up. In any case, don't get the cheap caulk, and if you have someone working for you, don't let them use it either.

I have read through lots of the reviews for this product and decided to offer this opinion. I have been in the trades for thirty plus years, this is the sealant I now regularly select when needing the performance and reliability of a proven product. It flexes and tools better than most caulks which means a nicer looking end result; something unfortunately not ever contractor strives to achieve. I have never had a call back nor witnessed a Dynaflex failure since switching to it. My advice, do not expect a product to do something other than what it is designed to do. Using the proper product in the correct situation will produce the best results every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GOOD STUFF! As a General Contractor I have tried many caulking products over the past 25 years and I have to say this is my go to caulk. I not only use it on exterior projects but it also works great caulking in backsplashes and trim components. Have also inspected projects several years after completion and the caulking still looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best latex caulk I have ever used I have worked in the building trades for 36 years. This is one of the few products I have used that I can say is truly excellent in every way. On a wood to wood exterior application this stuff holds up for years if you cover it with a coat of paint to block the UV rays. It does not crack or shrink. I have gone back to do rework on jobs years later and the Dynaflex 230 still looks new with NO failure what soever. The low ratings of this product are unfair because it seems those folks did not know what they were buying for a job that required a different product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff I have used about 12 tubes of this stuff to seal up my 54 year old house. It works really well. I have used mostly the gray color as my house is painted gray. I think alot of the bad reviews are based off of people who did not read the instructions. There is a BIG DIFFERENCE between the colored stuff and the clear. The CLEAR TAKES A LONG TIME TO CURE. It states right on the tube, the colored stuff is ready for paint in less than 4 hours, but the clear is 7 DAYS. I have a bunch of tubes left and plan on using this exclusively on my house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent weather resistant paintable caulk DAP 230 caulk is very easy to apply and tool to a smooth finish, much better than silicone or urethane caulks. I've found it bonds well to painted and unpainted wood, metal or PVC with no problems and it takes and holds paint very well because it has no silicone in it - just be sure to let it dry completely first and use a backer rod for a deep joint. Silicone isn't listed as an ingredient on the back label, and anyway silicone caulks aren't always the best answer to every caulking problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This sealant is NOT "CLEAR" - until 7 to 14 days later!!! The front product label for this sealant states that it is "CLEAR". The small print on the back of the tube then indicates that "Sealant applies white & dries clear in 7-14 days". The tube further instructs the user to "allow to dry (from white to) clear before painting with latex or oil-based paints". Paintable caulk is traditionally paintable a few hours or so after application. 7 to 14 days is an unbelievably long time to wait before painting. SOOO, if you are a weekend warrior - forget this stuff, because your "honey do list" won't be any lighter until 7 - 14 days later!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DAP dynaflex 230 This is not just a caulk - this is a sealant. When cured you would think it had silicone in it, but it doesn't, so it doesn't smell bad. Easy cleanup. 50 yr warranty. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff Works great, easy to apply, economical... what's not to like? I use this for all the trim in my house. Recently I installed a laminate floor in my guest bedroom, and this caulked worked great to seal the prefinished quarter round and the existing baseboards. It matches the trim perfectly and makes it look like one piece! I also used it for filling in the nail holes as well. Clean up is easy, since it's water based. Just keep a damp paper towel with you as you work. You don't need any special tools for smoothing it out either. Just a wet fingertip!
