It will take a few days or a rainstorm before it quits making your shoes black when you walk on it. You can drive on it immediately.

Do I need to put gravel down first before I use this stuff? Or will it stay over dirt?

Dirt's fine. If the depression is large and deep, it might be cheaper to put gravel down first, but if it's only a few inches, I'd just use it straight. If you do use gravel first, fill the gravel with sand. You don't want to leave spaces between the gravel pieces themselves because the small stones of the patch material can get driven down in the spaces, thus leaving an uneven repair. Make sure there's enough height left that you have a few inches (2-3?) of the patch material so It can make a strong repair.

Can I add gravel or rocks above sand and dirt before laying this product? I have a driveway edge that slopes and cracked off.

Sorry, but this product cannot be used on an edge. It has to be placed in a pothole that has all four sides.

Put sand on top of it until the material has had time to set. It will take 60 to 90 days for that material to set.

Good stuff, good price. easy to work with..,I'd buy it again! I Filled a 3' x 3' x 4" pot hole in my driveway. with 4 bags after making edges and a flat walls inside the hole.layer blacktop patch and inch at a time ending with a 1/2 rise above the surface. Then added a light dusting layer of concrete mix on top. which help harden the surface and made it match my faded driveway.I suggest just follow the instructions on the bag and mix in some concert dust. I could have have mixed it into the blacktop patch but only applied it to the top surface twice over a two day period. The wife is happy so I am too.

We used disposable gloves and the Blacktop Patch seemed easy to work with. We had a good size gap to fill so that people wouldn't trip over. We put a layer down and then pressed down by stepping on a board we already had, then added more and pressed down. It was soft for a couple days, but its firm now after a week.

I used the product to fix a larger area on my driveway than the recommended area and am very happy with the results, it's almost like I resurfaced my driveway with new asphalt. The driveway was damaged due to water collecting over the years after a rainfall. I am not sure of the coverage it says however (I could be wrong).

Product is still very rough after much pounding/tampering. Product needs more "gravy" to make patch smoother. Top layer looks like a bunch of rocks.
