A: They only can do a rough cut with the in store saw. If you want it down to a 5/16s or something like that you'll have to use your own table saw or circular saw.

A: It's 2x4 of raw lumber. It shrinks when dried, and various milling steps (including the width of the saw blade) further reduce the size.
