Answer This Question
A: Hello, Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. Our whole home systems are only certified to reduce chlorine, since NSF is limited in the testing they offer for Whole Home systems. We do know that the media used can reduce volatile organic chemicals, herbicides, pesticides and other chemical compounds. We add a pre-filter to help reduce reduces rust, sediment and silt and a .35 micron post filter to remove particulates 60 times smaller than the eye can see. As to your specific question, we can not determine if your water is potable without looking at a water quality report which would give a list of specific contaminants and levels. If you are on municipal water, then this system may be sufficient. If however, you are on well water, then you will need to look into our well water filtration system- http://www.homedepot.com/p/Aquasana-Rhino-Series-6-Stage-500-000-Gal-Well-Water-Filtration-System-with-Simply-Soft-Salt-Free-Water-Softener-and-UV-Filter-THD-WELL-BUNDLE/207051027

A: Hello and thank you for your interest in Aquasana. While this system is not officially certified like our 6 year system (EQ-600), the EQ-300 uses the exact same media and components which allows us to guarantee the performance.

Q:How can you tell how big of a filter system you need

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. As long as your home is less than 3500 sq. ft. and you have 3-1/2 bathrooms or fewer, any of our Whole Home systems will meet your needs, and you should not experience any noticeable drops in pressure. If you have a larger home, a custom system can be built to deal with the typical water capacity of your home. Just contact our customer service at 866.662.6885 and a representative can instruct you as to how this can be done.

Q:Does it filter out Sulphur gas?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. This system is not suitable for well water, or sulfur reduction. We do offer a well water filtration system which is capable of reducing low levels of sulfur. The well system can be found here- http://www.homedepot.com/p/Aquasana-Rhino-Series-6-Stage-500-000-Gal-Well-Water-Filtration-System-with-Simply-Soft-Salt-Free-Water-Softener-and-UV-Filter-THD-WELL-BUNDLE/207051027

Q:My water use is 25 gallons/day average, and my interest is exclusively chlorine filtration after your 3-year certification period. Please disregard other filtration aspects. Assume nominal San Diego city water and chlorine levels, and regular pre-sediment filter changes.
1) At 25 gal/day, will your activated-carbon filter continue to remove chlorine for anywhere near 300,000 gallons? If not, why not?
(I'm asking for expected, not guaranteed, chlorine removal after 3 years, when less than 50,000 gallons total used, and far less than certified 300,000 maximum gallons used.)
2) If less than 300,000 gallons worth of chlorine filtration remains after 3 years, how many total gallons could be reasonably expected beyond 3 years before the filter no longer removes chlorine? A conservative, subjective estimate is ok. Please don't answer, "we only certify for 3 years" or "it depends...." I'm just looking for a reasonable quantitative answer.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. This system is certafied for chlorine reduction for 3 years or 300,000 gallons, whichever comes first. After 3 years we can no longer guarantee the performance will continue to meet the same filtration percentage reduction as the performance data. This is because after 3 years the filter will start to become over saturated and the media will start to degrade. Keep in mind, that the media is constantly saturated in water, so even if you are not actively running a tap, the filter will still be full of water, ready to come out once that valve is opened.
Once the media starts to degrade, you risk bacteria and mold growing inside the filter and the system: Heterotrophs (heterotrophic bacteria) are a group of microorganisms (yeast, molds & bacteria) that use organic carbon as food (as opposed to autotrophs like algae that use sunlight) and are found in every type of water. We do include a media which is designed to inhibit bacteria and mold, within the system, however we do not have any testing or data available to guarantee how long this will remain active after 3 years.
You can still use the filter longer than 3 years, however we cannot guarantee the results will be the same as the first 3 years.

Q:Can water chlorine testing tell when your filter is depleted, eg. compare pre-filtered water chlorine baseline to periodic tests of post-filtered water chlorine? If not, why not? Straight answer please. I already understand that your system is certified for 3 years or 300,000 gallons of filtration and that my usage may vary.

A: Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. You can certainly use chlorine tests to monitor the effectiveness of the filter. After 3 years we can no longer guarantee the performance will continue to meet the same filtration percentage reduction as the performance data. This is because after 3 years the filter will start to become over saturated and the media will start to degrade.
