A: Thank you for positing your inquiry. As a general rule silicone does not adhere well to itself. While the bond developed may be acceptable, it is considered best practice to remove the existing sealant, clean the surface and reapply your new sealant. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A: No, this can't be painted.

A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. As indicated on the DAP Silicone Max product package label guidance as well as supporting product literature: "Not paintable. Paint substrate surface before applying sealant.". This performance characteristic is common to all 100% silicone formulas (irrespective of brand). For applications where paint application is desired, the use of an acrylic-latex (water based) sealant would typically be recommended. At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your project and to provide you with recommendation for a product that better aligns with your needs.

A: In my experience, the auto makers do not use silicone to seal glass. You can try it to see as it will not hurt anything. You might try the dealers to see if they have any advise......

Q:Is this suitable for sealing skylights?

Answer This Question
A: Not totally sure on roof applications. The sun and heat might degrade quicker. There are urethanes that might do better for sealing skylights. I tend to shy away from silicones for outside sealing. Just my opinion though.
by|Jul 28, 2019
A: yes
by|Aug 7, 2019
A: Yes, this will work for skylights. It would be better to use during installation. Then followed up with a roofing tar like product.
As for a leaking skylight, it will still work, if you find the right spot.

A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Silicone Max is not designed, tested or recommended for use in roofing applications or for glazing applications. For perimeter sealing (window frame to most common roofing materials), we would recommend the use of Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive Sealant.
