Q:I purchased this in May 2021, it?s lasted just over two years. It was $600. Just curious if any of it under warranty? The AC compressor does not kick on. It?s clean, and has been used properly.

Q:I've got two issues related to venting. My windows are all 46 inches from the floor. Is the hose long enough for venting through my window? The second question is the width of the window I want to use. It's only 14" wide. Can this a/c work with it?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi, Jack! The hose can be extended from its original length of 15" up to 59", but it is best to keep the length to minimum required. The minimum space required for the window slider kit is 26.6 inches and 52.5 inches maximum. Your window may be to small to accommodate this model's window slider kit. Q:How cold can it work in heating mode? Does it work but just put out less warm air or does it totally shut off? Does it have a defrost cycle?

A:  We use it in a bedroom the farthest away from the furnace  ( no heat comes up from register ). I’ve used it at below 0’.  The room gets to and keeps at the temperature we set it at. You have to vent it out the window and have a container for plastic tube to drip into. I use a 5 gal bottle. Only empty every 4 to 6 weeks.  Ours also does air conditioning. Works great for that too.

A:  I don't have a very scientific answer on this, but I can say that, for me, it has been an excellent heater. I don't know what you mean by "defrost cycle," but I don't think it has that. I have two of these in a old vacation cottage with poor insulation. I used to rely on space heaters. It makes more noise than a space heater (it's got a compressor and blower after all), but it generates a lot more heat. Venting out the cold air is essential—it seem to work as basically the air conditioner in reverse. Also, it produces some water. There is a tube that can transport the fluid to a bucket or outside the house. I don't think it is an ideal long-term alternative to a really good heating system, but for a specific area that is not getting enough heat, it has been really helpful. As mentioned I have two. I bought the second one because the first worked well. Your mileage may vary. All of this may depend on the location and the amount of heat you need, not to mention how much electricity you are willing to use.

Q:Is there a restriction on outside temperature for the heat mode? We have a whole house heat pump and it does not work when it is below 40 degrees outside. We have to use a back-up boiler. Does this unit heat a room when the outside temp is below 40?

A:  Hi Bob. In Cool mode a drain is not required. However, In the Cool mode the appliance must be placed close to a window or opening so that the warm exhaust air can be ducted outside. Additional details are available to view on page 6 of the owner's guide. ~ Anna
