A: This will work with incandescent and dimmable LED light bulbs. You should check with the manufacturer to be sure of the compatibility of certain LEDs.
A: Currently, there is no industry standard or regulation for the manufacturing of LEDs and the performance will vary with different dimming controls. With this information in mind, Lutron performs extensive testing on a variety of LEDs from many different manufacturers and posts our most up to date testing information on our LED compatibility tool. Lutron would suggest visiting www.lutron.com/ledfinder or www.lutron.com/ledtool to find compatible LEDs for a Lutron dimmer.
A: You should only have one switch per circuit. If you want a second switch use a pico remote for the second switch.
A: Assuming 3-way switch install. The incoming leg gets the main unit. The second location gets the wires get wire nutted and a pico remote, not a secondary switch. There are documents and videos on Lutron’s Caseta website.
A: I’m not sure what you mean by secondary. The Pico switch can be programmed to the Caseta by holding the off button for 10 seconds on the Caseta first, then the Pico.
A: If this is a 3-way application, Lutron does not recommend having two PD-6WCL dimmers installed as this will cause performance issues. Instead, one location would be the PD-6WCL and the second location would be a Pico remote, such as the PJ2-3BRL. You can see an illustration of the wiring here: https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_3.pdf.
A: The PD-6WCL dimmer does not have the preset functionality like the Maestro dimmers do. There are two methods to turning the dimmer on manually. First is pressing the top button, which would always turn the dimmer on to 100%. Second is holding the dim up button, which would gradually turn the lights on. Instead of the PD-6WCL, Lutron also offers the PD-5NE. The PD-5NE has a round favorites button in the center of the dimmer that could be programmed to turn the lights on at some dimmed level.
A: If you tap the top button it goes to full brightness. If you tap the second (up arrow) button it will start at the lowest level then you can keep holding it to raise the level. No other presets are available unless you use it with a remote, then there is a "favorite" preset available but is only accessible from the remote.
A: It always goes to the highest setting when you turn it on. You have to use the center two buttons to adjust the brightness.
A: It always goes to 100% brightness. There is a slightly more expensive "pro" version that has a circular button in the center (similar to the Pico) that will return to the previous brightness setting when you click the button instead of the upper "on" button.
A: The indicator lights on the PD-6WCL cannot be turned off. When the dimmer is in the off state, they will emit a faint green glow. Instead, Lutron recommends the MACL-153M, which has the same indicator lights but they can be turned off. You can reference the advanced programming guide for the MACL-153M here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048459.pdf.
A: The light remains on. It is a very tiny green light and I can't imagine that it puts out enough light to be a distraction.
A: A light on the dimmer switch stays “on” as long as any light level other than “off” is selected. When totally off, the light off. They are extremely small. This not the correct item for a fan control.
A: The light indicators do not turn off. They are not bright and stay on all tge time. I have this switch in my bedroom and I have dark curtains to block the light. The lights on the switch are barely noticeable.
A: When the switch is in the off position all LEDs are faintly lit. When the switch is in the on position all LEDs are faintly lit with on bright green to indicate the dimmer level.
A: The indicator stays lit while the switch is on. It also stays lit when the switch is off, but at a very dim brightness level - just enough to easily locate the switch in a dark room.
A: Yes you can turn the device on and off with the Lutron app.
A: Yes you do....but you only need the cheaper Caseta hub unless you want to control drapes. Easy to set up and you can incorporate the hub with Alexa or Google home
A: Yes. All of the Lutron Caseta switches require a small hub unit (connected to your internet) to operate from a phone. Simple plug in-line behind your router and load the app to your phone. Done deal.
A: The Smart Bridge allows you to control your Caséta Wireless controls and Lutron Serena® remote controlled shades from anywhere with your smartphone, using the free Lutron App for Caséta Wireless. The bridge provides multiple benefits over Wi-Fi products: It is ultra-fast and reliable ensuring your lights react instantly every time you adjust them from the app or Pico remote control. The bridge prevents the cluttering of your Wi-Fi network by acting as the single point of connection to the cloud. It is also easier to set-up and enables more local control/integrations with other smart home products. A: Yes
A: Yes. You need a caseta bridge, which connects to your router.
A: The PD-6WCL dimmer is designed to control one lighting load. It is rated for 150W of compatible LED/CFL or 600W incandescent/halogen lighting. If using LEDs, Lutron recommends visiting www.lutron.com/ledfinder or www.lutron.com/ledtool to see which LEDs are compatible.
A: No. It is a single dimmer switch. Top 1/3 is “on”. Bottom 1/3 “off”. Middle split diagonally to increase/decrease light level.
A: No
A: No. The top lightbulb turns the light on. The two triangles in the middle act as the dimmer up or down. The light bulb at the bottom turns the light off.
A: No, the bottom button turns the light off, the top button full on, the middle two button perform the dimming function in steps, up or down as indicated. Works great with Siri.
A: You will have to install the Caseta connect hub and set the device up through the hub. Once this is done, you may go to Alexa and discover new skills.
A: You need some sort of Alexa enabled bridge, such as Wink 2
A: if you bought the starter kit it comes with the lutron control module base. That is what you have for alexa to discover to operate the lights. this allows you to use your phone to control the lights.
A: In order to integrate the PD-6WCL dimmer with Alexa, the Caseta Smart Bridge will need to be installed. Once a Caseta account has been created, then the Lutron skill can be added in the Alexa app. The Caseta Smart Bridge model number is L-BDG2.
A: You need a lutron bridge or compatible to connect to internet and use the Alexa app. App will discover switch, and setup is pretty straightforward.
A: No, it can't be used to control the speed of a fan.
A: The PD-6WCL is designed to control lighting loads only. Instead, Lutron would recommend using the PD-FSQN. The PD-FSQN is designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only utilizes pull-chains to adjust its speeds. A fan that includes its own remote or wall control typically uses a proprietary control technology and would likely be incompatible with a third-party fan speed control. As always, Lutron would suggest reaching out to your fan manufacturer to verify if this control would be compatible with their fan.
A: No, the dimmer only work with LED lights, and only with the specified by the manufacturer LED lights. Any other LEDs not in the list, will break, not work, or produce humming noise while working. It happened to me already. I had to use a different switch for my fan.
A: You would need a fan speed control. Dimmers alone are not designed to talk to motors or electronics. I believe Caseta has as a fan speed option
A: No. Caseta does offer a fan speed control.
A: I don't think so, but I'd check with the manufacturer. There are definitely Caseta switches that explicitly say that they are for fans (PD-5ANS-WH-R, Smart Lighting Switch for All Bulb Types or Fans, White) which would lead me to think that you need to get the fan specific version, like: Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Fan Speed Control, Single-Pole, White Model# PD-FSQN-WH-R
A: It is a single pole electronic switch. If you needed to control multiple poles, you could use that switch to control a contactor
A: Yes, and no. The instructions for a three pole connection include terminating the the wiring for the second switch. It is recommended to use the wireless Pico smart remote and install it in place of the second switch. Effectively this will allow for multiple switches.
A: For multi-location control, Lutron recommends having one PD-6WCL dimmer installed and all other locations should be Pico remotes. You can view an illustration of 3-way wiring here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_3.pdf.
A: Yes, I have used the Caaeta at one side of three-way control applications in two locations (hallway & patio).
A: Yes it will work as a double pole. The other switch will need to stay in the on position for this to work correctly
A: This is a single pole switch / dimmer. It requires two wires, connected to the power and the light, and a third wire to ground. They sell a compatible remote control (Pico Remote) that can add a second or third location.
A: No. Who replaces a single pole switch. If you want to control a double pole, I suggest a non-dimming Caseta and a contractor.
A: No
A: The PD-6WCL dimmer can be used in 3-way applications. The PD-6WCL would be connected at one end of the lighting circuit, and at the other end would be a Pico remote, such as the PJ2-3BRL. You can view an illustration of the wiring here: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/368-4493_Page_3.pdf.
