Q:How hot does it get when radiators are running? Want to use it to make radiator covers to help childproof our radiators.

          Answer This Question

A:  We made the rad covers for 2 radiators that are about 5 feet off the ground because it's a garden apartment. It does not appear to get too hot as the steam still goes thru the grates but we don't touch the grates when the steam is coming out. If your rad is on the floor, I would certainly make it about 4 inches away so there is no burn danger and I would not allow the children to play near it. Think of it like a stove and beware of hot surfaces.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  I would be cautous if you have pets and children as the closer the metal is the heat the hotter it becomes. Most radiator cpvers are distance say three inches from actual heat source. REgular metal tradiator covetrs are heavier metal. This can dent.

          by|Oct 3, 2019

A:  The aluminum warms up for sure but doesn't get hot. It is so thin and has such a high perforation percentage that heat flows through it.

          by|Oct 30, 2018

A:  For us, it's definitely hot to the touch, but not the kind of hot that would burn.

A:  I checked the website and didn't find that size listed. I've also visited different stores and none of the sheets are that large.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for writing in. The sheet is simply extruded aluminum. We've never tested it for the effects it may have on audio quality.

                      by|May 4, 2023

A:  This metal sheet isn't much thicker than aluminum trim coil, I wouldn't suggest it for speaker cone protection. It may be a good cosmetic replacement for grill cloth, although the clover design may dampen the sound. There is a protective metal screen made for speaker cabinet grills that would work better available at a/v distributors like Parts Express.

A:  Thank you for your question! You can cut the sheet with any power saw blade approved to cut aluminum or with a pair of hobby shears or tin snips.

A:  I guess you could wrap this product around the pipe as it is not rigid but can be easily dented too so use care. The edges are sharp when cut though and you would have to cut a few pieces to cover floor to ceiling. I would suggest cutting a few pieces and molding them around a can or something small so you can do it easier before installing around the pipe.

A:  For sure but light passes through easily so you would be able to see the pipe behind the screen.

A:  I did not see any custom radiators in the store or online. There are plenty of ideas on the Home Depot website with regards to radiator covers.
