Q:Does this absorb low frequency sound from outside electric transformer?
by|May 6, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  no, fiberglass insulation doesn't absorb sound very well below 600 hz, about mid-range on a piano, so a low hum won't be fixed with these. build a box or enclosure around the transformer containing fiberglass insulation 6-8" thick, that would do it.

Q:I live in an apartment and share a wall with a noisy neighbor. Will these panels help with sound coming from there side?

    Answer This Question

A:  No, these are designed to absorb sound reflecting off hard surfaces within a room; they do not increase sound blocking from adjacent rooms. A common way to reduce noise from a neighbor is to increase wall mass by adding a layer of drywall and decoupling.

A:  to really block sound you could add a layer of insulation and then another 'faux' wall of drywall, or just some packing blankets and a 'faux' wall of 1.5" insulation pink board over that painted white for an easy redneck fix.

        Answer This Question

A:  spray the panels with vinegar and dust with baking soda. the chemical reaction should soak into the top layer of the fiber and neutralize the urea and bubble it out to the surface, then towel off dry.

Q:Spray can paint is recommended. However, I'd like to create art on the panels. Would watercolor or acrylic paint (thinned out) affect the panel's acoustic properties ? Both of these options are really thin, and the water used in painting would evaporate.
