          Answer This Question

A:  from your question i assume you have a zc fireplace with a gas log installed. this is not the same as a gas fireplace. a gas fireplace has a gas vent ... but no chimney. most factory made (zero clearance) fireplaces are a metal box (outer shell) with a smaller metal box (firebox) inside. heat from a fire warms a passage in the chimney which creates a draft to draw cooling air from the room to cool the outer shell and chimney. these fireplaces have openings in the front to allow cooling air to enter. if you install something that blocks the entry of cooling air ... you could burn down the house. many zero clearance fireplaces had optional glass doors available that were specifically designed for them ... but it is not likely the manufacturer would still have these parts available if the fireplace is older. there are companies that make custom doors for zc fireplaces. there have been a few clean face zc fireplaces made that have no cooling air vents in the front. if you believe that your zc fireplace has no openings in the front for cooling air ... i would suggest that you have your fireplace inspected by a fireplace professional or certified chimney sweep to confirm ... before installing a door designed for masonry fireplaces (some manufacturers are very clever about making the air inlets less obvious)

A:  We have just a wood burning fireplace but in our previous home we installed a similar product with our gas logs. I find this product prevents heat or cooled air going up the chimney when the fireplace isn’t in use. I definitely would recommend the product

                      Answer This Question

A:  There are brackets that adjust to the fireplace opening and the black surround covers slightly more than the actual opening for a finished look. I love the fact it stop the air conditioning and heat from going up the chimney when not it use.

                      by|Jul 15, 2019

A:  this door is designed to overlap the opening .... so 30" overall height would give 1/2" overlap on a 29 1/2" opening. this small overlap would require a smooth fireplace facia such as tile or polished stone this door is able to accommodate a wide range of opening heights (22 1/2 - 29 1/2) because a 2" optional riser bar is included so the overall height would be 28" without the riser. home depot will allow you to return a door if it does not fit.

A:  Hi Georgina. The purpose of the riser bar is to help seal off the interior of the fireplace. It gives height to the door and serves as a safety feature by containing hot coals and keeping smoke from entering your home. Riser bars eliminate the gap between the bottom of the door and the firebox. -GHP Group Customer Support
