Q:How would installation be different if I wanted to attach this to a chain link fence?
by|Jun 14, 2019

Answer This Question

A:  Technically you can attach this fence to the chain link fence (to the horizontal bar of it). This fence is an independent panel, 6 by 6 feet in size and can be located anywhere, even be used as a privacy wall. But you need to attach it to the structure. You can use the round brackets to attach the fence to the chain link bar.

A:  With 4x4 at each end.

A:  I used metal strapping to install mine against a chainlink fence. I removed the chain link fabric and stood the panels up against the metal frame. Then used metal strapping (the kind with all the wholes in it, you can find it in the electrical dept.). I screwed the strapping into the frame on the panel and then looped it around the metal post and screwed it into the frame on the next panel. Once it was all set, then I drove a screw through the strap into the metal post. Worked great stood up to the winds and is still standing today. Just a hint I painted the metal frame and the strapping black, it looks great.

A:  No ours was not 8 ft it was 6 ft

A:  No, this is only a six by six foot fence. If you meant to ask if they had eight foot wide fences like this, they do not. These would not support themselves at eight foot width, the “cedar” tongue and groove panels are 3/8” thick, if that.

A:  I installed about 20 panels last year. After setting the posts (6-foot centers, I attached the panels to the faces of the posts using three inch exterior grade wood screws. A couple of hands-free clamps helped in supporting the panels, as I work alone. Hope this helps

A:  They can be easily screwed to the post. You can pre-drill the holes first, or just screw without drilling. Also, panels can be connected to each other (via screws) to have a seamless transition (and screwed to the posts later on).

A:  I installed this last year, you have to assemble the whole panel. and just screw through the side trim onto the post. you just have to make sure your posts are spaced properly.

A:  A common method is to install 3 pcs 3 to 3 1/2" long Deck Screws uniformly spaced from top to bottom through the side rail into the adjoining wood post.

A:  This is what I did, your situation may be different( sounds like you bought multi panels). I bought one panel for a privacy fence on my deck. I measured, set and attached 2 4x4 pressure treated posts into preformed cement footer blocks and attached the post to the deck framing. I attached the fence panel to the post with galvanized screws after predrilling the holes. It has held up well to strong winds. My neighbor has multi wood stockade panels and used the same 4 x4 pressure treated posts set deep in the ground.

A:  Unlike building a custom fence panel, you cannot adjust for variance in space between post with these panels. If you have extra time like I did you set the posts as you add the panels. This helps support the posts as the crete sets as well as ensuring they are plumb. The only trick is keeping the concrete off your new panels as you pour around the post into the post hole.

However. since these are panel kits that the customer assembles, with some basic carpentry skills, it is not difficult to modify the size of the finished panels as they are being assembled.
