Q:Can this hanger be used with Simpson #10 x 1½" SD Connector screws?
    by|Apr 20, 2019
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the #10 x 1 1/2" SD Connector screw can replace the specified 0.162" x 3 1/2" nails in face mount hangers with straight download and uplift (such as the HU/HUC hangers) with a 1.0 adjustment factor (meaning a 1-to-1 replacement...no reduction). Thank you!

A:  Perfect application, provided strength and the rigidity to my structure.Very Happy!!!

A:  My measurements, using both a fractional digital caliper and a ruler: Inside width (between the little curves towards the bottom of the front edges of the hanger): 3-77/128 inches, which is 3/128 inch narrower than 3-5/8 inches (which is 3-80/128 inches). I'd call the inside width 3-5/8 inches. Outside width (measured across the hanger's solid base): 3-11/16 inches.

A:  Same as tour 4x4 lumber which measures 3.5”x3.5”.

Q:The title says these are for 6” x 12” joist? Is that for a true 6” wide or the modern 5.5” wide? In the specifications it says these are 8” wide which would be incorrect for a 6x12 joist.

Q:What is the width of this hanger? The description calls out 6. inches. I am looking to put a rough cut (true 4 inch wide ) beam in this. Six inches would be too wide.

              Answer This Question

A:  The HUC410 is sized for a nominal 4x10 and has a width of 3 9/16". The 6" callout is incorrect (thank you for pointing that out...we will have that corrected). We offer a U410R with a 4" opening sized for a rough 4x10 member, but its flanges are not concealed. The HUC410 can be special ordered in a 4" width; please contact your local The Home Depot store for assistance. Thank you!

A:  The inside width is 3-9/16", so 4" nominal (3.5" actual) will fit with a hair of wiggle room, but not a full 4" rough cut timber. Home Depot sucks.

Q:Literature says width is 5-3/8", but if it is just to hold a pair of 2 x 6's side by side, shouldn't the width be more like 3-1/4"? I would use this to connect a pair of 2 x 6 floor joists to a vertical 4 x 4 post, so the width dimension is critical. (5-3/8" won't fit, but 3-1/4" will.) And are there any issues with using this with all treated lumber?

                            Answer This Question

A:  You are correct...the HUC26-2 actually has a width of 3 1/8". We will work with The Home Depot to get this corrected on their webpage. The HUC26-2 hanger has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection. Typically, at least a medium level of protection is recommended for exterior conditions and with treated wood. Please see the Corrosion section on our website for the recommended finish based on your condition. This hanger be special ordered with Z-MAX finish or HDG finish which both provide a medium level of corrosion protection. Thank you!
