I'm sharing this because I've been laying grass seed for years. This peat is perfect - fine, no sticks. When watering the peat soaks it up and doesn't shrink as it dries - stays where you put it. In 3 days, I had grass!

I bought this to cover the grass seed on a new lawn I installed. It worked great. The one thing you have to know is this is highly compressed, and getting it to completely separate takes effort. It tends to clump in different-sized clumps. I ended up slicing open a bag in a large wheelbarrow, then using a flat-blade shovel to repeatedly shave parts off the bale and chop it fine. I covered about 1,500 square feet of yard with 5 bags, at a coverage of about 1/4" thickness. HD Note: you should publish a photo of the back of the bag, not just the front. The back of the bag has directions on use including coverage area.

I have clay soil and this was very helpful to lighten it, my plants are really noticing the difference

I picked up the bag of peat moss as I was planting new grass seed and wanted a nice firm covering so it wouldn't be disturbed by animals. The contents of the moss are great and while you might have some small sticks it's easy to remove it and apply more moss to the ground and provide security to the newly planted grass seed. Very easy to grab and layer it on the ground. Very happy with the product and def will be getting more of it. A key feature I really like is you can tell when you need to water the area again as the moss gets a little lighter in color.

I think I got a lemon this time. I have purchased this product onsite at Home Depot stores many times with no issues. This last time I ordered Express Delivery from Home Depot, which shipped from their warehouse in Oakland, and maybe this is where they store defective items? The Sunshine Peat Moss packaging looked the same, but inside it's definitely not 100% peat moss. It looks more like potting mix with perlite already mixed in. It's also drier and less "sticky" than the usual Sunshine peat moss. It seems to be a completely different product, please see my photos. I emailed SunGro, the manufacturer of Sunshine Peat Moss, and asked if this was production mistake or if the product has changed permanently. Hope this is a one off mistake and I can get the original Sunshine Peat Moss back...

I have used this product for years and love it. The "Sunshine" brand is the one we use to "top-dress" newly seeded lawns. There isn't too much fluff or bark filler.

If you're interested in this product because the brand is Canadian, call ahead. The brand they had in my store was Premier, and it's U.S. peat moss.

I found this peat moss to be very rich.It was easy to work with and it really enhanced my garden.

Finally, a big bag of peat that's actually sphagnum instead of having "coco coir" written in the fine print. It works perfectly as part of a bioactive mix for reptile and invertebrate terrariums, and holds a burrow for tarantulas better than coco.

After all the Rain this summer my soil was hard and compact. I mixed in some sunshine peat moss and it gave new life to my garden. Love it !

I’m in the camp of this moss is good quality for the price. There are a few smaller sticks here and there but the vast majority is good fine sphagnum moss with a great rich smell to it. It’s quite compressed and does take some work to break up but it’s not that difficult if using a trowel. Honestly, the only thing I don't like is how heavy it is! It has to be a good 50lbs.

After I plant my tomatoes, and other vegetables, I spread this around as a mulch. Keeps down the weeds and keeps the ground moist.

I always use peat moss to cover seed. This product works Great!

I see a lot of complaints on this, but I can say I just bought 6 bags from Home depot this last week and 5 out of 6 were excellent. The 1 that was a bit off was just very dried out. The other 5 bags were slightly moist, well compacted and dark. Broke apart very easy - and expanded nicely. No stick issues at all. Tilled this into my new garden and it, combined with other organics really made our desert dirt quite nice.

Do not waist your time with this product! We have used this product in the past with great results but seems like the quality control has changed. We used to top our 11,000 square foot new lawn. The first 12 bales were great but the last 15 were absolutely horrible. We use a peat moss roller to get uniform thickness and always have a small amount that will not pass thru the mesh. With the last 15 bales 1/3 to 1/2 of the bale was a stringy and had large wood debris that had to be thrown out. See picture..this was from just one bale...total rip off!

I have been using "Premier" brand peat moss for 10+ years. It is a brand you can trust for reliable mixture and low moisture content. Always falls apart before being tilled into whatever dirt I'm trying to "en-rich". I have no idea what this "SUNSHINE" brand is all about. The bags I purchased were white with green trim and red & black lettering.

This new batch i bought seems like the quality has improved.

This bag goes a long way, especially if you’re creating a grow bag garden on your balcony like me! Still haven’t used all of it.

It does what I thought it would do . Less weed in the garden .

I mixed the peat moss with garden soil at a 1:2 rate for my potting flowers and nursery pot. It makes the soil softer and looser while keeping moisture. It’s a great product with the competitive price.
