Lovely, well-made, but problematic to install
My wife and I run a small property business in southwestern Pennsylvania. We buy, renovate, rent, and sell homes. I am the licensed contractor of the outfit and head up our work crew. You’ve no doubt watched reality shows about real estate renovation in far more glamorous areas of the United States, where the action focuses around stylish investors who order around their tradesmen minions to do their bidding, flipping dumps into dreams quickety-quick, and never getting their hands dirty. I’ll ask you to believe that’s reality TV, not reality for any smaller renovation outfit like ours. In our business, I personally handle all the especially complicated, dangerous, and/or nasty jobs. When you renovate homes for sale, there are certain things that always have to be done in this market and most others like it -- a lot of your budget past making the property livable has to go into bathroom and kitchen remodeling. We’re always looking for certain innovative items to add that interest to our properties. Innovative space-saving designs are always good. High-end fixtures, also good. So I got this wall-mounted faucet for eventual installation in a secondary bathroom in a higher-end property. Pair this with a wall-mounted sink or a very small vanity with a small but elegant vessel sink on it, and you save a lot of precious space in an older first-floor powder room, or even perhaps open up enough space in a secondary bath to fit in a small shower. The fixture really is pretty. Anzzi fixtures, I’ve quickly learned, are characteristically polished well past what other stuff available at this price point typically receives. The design is elegant and clever. I’ve no doubt it will work flawlessly when installed. Finally, the part that goes inside your wall, that isn’t accessible for repair easily, that’s lovely solid cast brass. The good stuff that will be around and functioning past 2100. Installation is where things get sticky on this. An in-wall faucet means, of course, that you have to mount it to the wall. But this space-saving faucet requires the installation of a precise 2.09-inch cavity with backing for the aforementioned in-wall water valve (it’s obvious there’s some wiggle room here, but not much). Moreover, there is no explanation that the 2.09-inch figure does not allow for tile or drywall thicknesses. If you’ve never done something like this before, you’ll find yourself in high water quickly. Figure 1 shows the behind-the-wall valve. The water supply pipes will also need to be routed behind the wall to fit the odd corner supply, where they terminate in female leads (see Figure 2). In typical US locations, this will complicate the installation, and that could create more of a possibility for a leak someday in a behind-the-wall installation such as this one. Keeping water pressure up may become a secondary problem, depending on the installation technique used. All in all, this will be a complicated installation job, almost as much as behind-the-wall plumbing for a shower/tub combo. In my business, I personally handle all the difficult, complicated work like this, so this faucet is not going to be much fun for me down the line. It will be beautiful after a few hours of work to set up the cavity and water supply, and then install and connect the valve, and then to put in backerboard, and then tile the space correctly, and finally install the plate, handle, and spigot exactly right, but it will not be fun. Again, if a DIYer tries to put this in, there is a very high chance of failure. This is no easy installation. If a neighborhood installer you find in some corner of the interwebs gives you a casual low bid on putting this in, rest assured that after examining the piece and its in-wall requirements carefully, that estimate will either be revised or the installer will do a quick-fix job (more likely). Getting this right will require significant care. But, if you’re aware of this installation issue and you still have your heart set on this fixture, buy it, by all means. This is very good stuff that should last practically forever.

Decent faucet for the right application
I considered this item to use in a small and narrow powder room. The idea was to save space by making the counter more narrow and installing the faucet into the wall. I've seen this done and it's a great look for smaller spaces. This is a nice faucet unit with flawless chrome. It's heavy and has a nice feel to it however the styling leaves a bit to be desired in my opinion. Yes, the handle has a nice European and modern flair to it but that LARGE chrome back plate simply reminds me of a high school lavatory bathroom for some reason. I can't get past it. It looks so... utilitarian. I will admit that this unit is MUCH easier to install as you don't need to be as careful with precision cuts in the wall for plumbing as the plate will cover a multitude of sins... Kind of like a "mumu" dress. But like a mumu dress, the ease doesn't make it OK. Shop it as there are lot of options available. And just say NO to the mumu too while you're at it...
