The trimmer works great. The battery does go quick. However, the locking mechanism broke on my second time using it. I switched from trimmer to edger and the lock got permanently stuck and way over rotated. I used channel locks to get it unstuck but the lock now no longer locks the shaft in place when switching modes. I tested it and locked it and was still able to turn the shaft with my hand.

Item was defected battery

I followed the instructions to fully charge the battery before first use, then it started flashing red as if defective, as per the manual. Whether actually defective or not, this is poor for a new product and no clear way of getting a replacement battery.

I bought the weedeater as a bundle with the recommended replacement string in October 2022, 7 months ago. The first month I used it, the battery would hold a charge for 40 minutes, and the original string that came with the weedeater seemed indestructible considering the rocky Arizona landscaping most homes have. The weedeater was stored away until last month, and when I began using it again, the battery would only hold a charge for a maximum 20 minutes. Then, this morning, when the original string finally broke, I replaced it with the string that came with the bundle. The replacement string immediately began to fray, and it broke 3 times in less than 5 minutes. So, I gave up thinking it was faulty string. Then, when I went to put the battery back on the charger in my house where I store it, the charger had stopped working. I took everything back to Home Depot near my house, and they offered to replace the whole thing if they had the same weedeater in stock, but it turns out they don't keep battery operated Black & Decker weedeaters in stock, so they advised I contact Black & Decker directly. It's incredibly frustrating when the weedeater has really only been in use for 3 out of the last 7 months, and it's already not functionioning. So, no, I don't recommend this product.

I was so excited yesterday when I picked up my new trimmer and used it today! It did everything that it was meant to do wonderfully! Then……I plugged it in to recharge! Either the charger is bad mor the battery! I had my old battery and charger from an older B&D trimmer and my battery was already charge on the old charger. Unfortunately the new charger was still not charged for me to trim the rest of my lawn. I’m really disappointed with that cheap charger!! You guys should go back to the former one! I even put That charger in another receptacle thinking the first one didn’t have enough juice to do it. It was plugged into the first one for 3 hours and it kept blinking green. When I used the other receptacle, it started blinking green and then it had a red light on. I can’t recommend the product when unit has a cheaply charger that doesn’t work! This works great! Love it! Lightweight, cuts good, trims well.

Rotating the shaft is not great. My older unit seemed to do better with cutting.

Purchased this one on January 2022, all working fine until battery starts blinking red and not working as expected. Had to charge hour+ for 10 minute usage.

I can't even use it anymore because the string doesn't stay on the spool.

The Black & Decker Cordless String Trimmer/Edger at Home Depot is cost effective and converts easily from a Trimmer to an Edger. The one snag is that the automatic line advancement features doesn't always advance as advertised. Sometimes you need to remove the orange cap and advance the line by hand. The plus is that the Lithium battery when fully charged can easily do an average residential property as it runs continuously for over an hour.

I have had two of these trimmers in previous years and no big issues ,however, this model has many issues with auto feed line that goes through line in a matter of minutes of use . My biggest complaint is the safety of this product the feed was constantly cutting new line and projecting pieces toward my hands got severe blood blisters and deep cuts on fingers .the manufacturer needs to address these issues that many customers are encountering…I returned item immediately and would not recommend many others have experienced identical issues.

Light weight but powerful

Battery wouldn't fit it kept popping out it wouldn't hold its charge

I have a small yard, so I thought the lower voltage battery would have no trouble lasting long enough to trim the whole thing. I was wrong. It only last ling enough to do about half the yard. It works well enough, but the battery dies quickly. I suggest going with the higher voltage or buying a back up battery.
