Last year I replaced all of my boards on my rear deck using Deckmate 3" screws. After a year, when I tightened protruding screws, I found out they were broken. Going board by board I replaced 144 broken screws; about 50% of them. I had to awkwardly pry each of the broken screws out, since the thread portion was broken off in the wood. I would never use Deckmate screws again unless they can fix this problem. I will see how they handle the "Lifetime Guarantee" advertised on the box.

Just as Jeromie stated, screws are breaking. 35'x25' ft deck built in Feb 2020, it's now September. 1/2 the deck boards are popping up. After inspection it turns out the screws had snapped and are no longer holding the boards down. I did not count all the screws but at least 50 of them are broken. Also the starhead strips out very fast. These screws are great screws and not sure if I got a bad batch. Using these screws in the past on other decks I've built I've never had these problems.

Built 3 level 1800 sqft deck in Oct of last year. Was going to clean and stain this week but instead im dealing with broken screws. Up to 50+ replaced so far and still have largest deck to go. These screws are junk. I just finished chemo in August and now i have to deal with this. Decimate is manufactured by homedepot if you guys didn't know.

The "improve thread" design just tears up the wood resulting in anchor failure. HD's picture does not make it clear what these are. See MY picture before deciding to buy. I suppose there is SOME application where you want to drill out the anchor hole but in the pine lumber (treated and regular SPF) I am using they have no holding power with these screws which act more like drill bits than screws.

A pretty good screw! I think I’d be even better if the threads continued up farther!The reason is... if you need to back the screw out... sometimes it doesn’t have anything to bite.The star drive is excellent!The corrosion resistance is excellent!I’m sure I use a dozen or more boxes a year... maybe more!

We replaced all the boards in our deck with these using a couple different sizes. Hoping they hold up well. They glide in fine with very little splitting on the wood. We're hoping for no rusting. Wish they weren't so pricey, but if you need them...you have no choice. LOL

I'm using these to build soffits and have been very impressed with their strength and durability. the star head is great. my only wish was that they had secured the star bit to the package because it was hard to find among the screws.

For some reason the star head on the screw doesn't seat as well as it used to (with the bit) and it also seems to round out very fast.. not so good!

Just great. They don’t split the wood. The “star head” doesn’t cam out and slip like phillips head screws. Nice finish. Will use again

Just the right amount for the job

They are more yellow than tan and bend a little when inserting so can't reuse if you made an error..

Excellent quality, star connector has great torque - home run all the way.

Solid, well built screws that drill quickly, hold fast, and last nearly forever. Have used these for deck projects, and many other home projects where a long, strong fastener was needed. Will definitely use them again and again!
