Reading the other reviews; of course, I was skeptical; but, the cheap side of me decided to give it a shot. I should get consulting fees for this one; or, at least a Home Depot Gift Card...... As packaged it did not come prepared for the average Joe. I had to refer to some of my old Sheet Metal training to make this work. The ballcock teeter-totter sits too high, for my application; and, apparently the same is true for most everybody else. I thought to myself, I can drill out the rivet, drill a new hole and set it lower. Well, I drilled it out; but, I found that the teeter-totter has two holes. One high & one low. What would be better is if the manufacturer didn't rivet it and instead, included a brass cotter pin; or a brass bolt and nut. I had to reclock the whole fill valve; because, it is clocked differently, from original; and, would interfere with the float valve. I didn't bend anything; and, it worked out. I reset the teeter-totter and I actually shoved the drilled out rivet back in. Bent it a little; so, it'll hold. We'll see how long it lasts; but, I can always replace it with that stainless steel cotter pin. Check out my photos, to see what I did; and, how I made it work. Oh, on various hydraulic systems, I've see rubber or silicone gaskets backed up by a teflon gasket. I figured this may have been the thought; so, I used both gaskets - black on bottom - opaque on top. Seems to work fine. But really, Home Depot needs to ask the manufacture to leave the ball cock separate; and, let the consumer choose, as seen on my photos.

    Did the job
Rarely write reviews but thought this item deserved one after reading a lot of the negative ones. This product worked perfectly and was exactly what I needed. It comes with a black and clear washer so I had to try both to see which one was the better fit but other than that it was very easy to install. This is a great product and a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

As others have noted as a full replacement this may not work. The angle of the arm is off by about a quarter of an inch which will cause the float to rub on the side of some tanks. However, there is a way to use this kit to make your repair. If your bonnet is not damaged you can reuse your original bonnet and just replace the plunger and diaphram (and screws if you like) from the kit. By using the original bonnet you'll maintain the angle on the ballcock arm and avoid having to bend the arm or make any other modifications. A side note: the kit i purchased didn't have blue and clear diaphrams but rather black and clear. I used the black because it seemed thicker. I've fixed two toilets with this kit and both are working fine now.

        Similacra
LloydInAustin is dead-on. So, it's okay to sell something that only LOOKS like the real thing. Okay Taiwan, you got me. Darned if I didn't think that a repair kit purchased at Home Depot might actually be a real repair option for me, instead of somebody's fantasy of a ballcock cap repair kit. Physics in the real world, that's where I used to live...

          Inferior product
Terrible product. It causes toilet to leak nonstop. Home Depot used to carry this part from fluidmaster, but it has been discontinued.

          Poorly designed imitation of original
There are two problems with the design. The plastic adjustment screw is not long enough, and the arm with the float is at the wrong angle so the float presses against the side of the tank. Bending the brass float rod is not a solution to the problems because then the float rod rotates in the valve as the rubbing against the side of the tank and the lift from the float change with the water level. The result is that the water level setting is not consistent with each flush and does not always shut off. It looks like someone sent the correct replacement part to China and asked them to duplicate it, and now make them so cheaply that the poorly designed imitation is the only replacement parts that are available. Their replacement looks almost exactly like the original, but the people in China probably do not have any old toilets with the Hoov-R-Line valves that they can use to test their design. The original Hoov-R-Line design is not very good to begin with, and the only reason to keep using that valve is because it is easier to install the repair kit than crawling under the toilet tank to replace the entire valve. It is just as easy to replace the whole valve assembly with one that has a better design as it is to rotate the whole original valve assembly so the float does not rub against the side of the tank.

          I use 1 to 2 per month
Junk compared to Fluidmaster. I have been using Home Depot's Fluidmaster repair kits for years. Since they now have Everbilt I have been having trouble getting them to work. They don't have the right angle for the float or the plastic screw is too short so I have to bend the float arm, the float ends up turned at a different angle so I have to turn the fill valve housing, the plastic adjustment screw has stripped out which raises the water level, and the brass adjustment screw gets hung up on the plastic it hits which keeps the water running.

          few issues
Hoov-R-Line ballcocks have long been the best, but over the years appear to have changed enough to cause problems in installing replacement heads like this on the older ones. A change in the the position of the arm connection on the cap means you may have to twist the body so the ball can move freely, or bend the arm. And a thinner piston seal means water level screw adjustment or possibly a longer screw. Parts are, however, interchangeable and you can replace only what you need on the original head. But there seems no f-ing reason for this. BTW, there's no difference between the Danco, Everbilt or Fluidmaster versions of this.
