Well worth it!
This shed is well built and serves its purpose very well. Be aware that you will easily spend $400 to $600 or more additional to get everything else you need. Easy to assemble, I put the entire thing together by myself with the exception of raising and securing the rafters and roof. Arrived on the day it was promised in good condition. I had already prepped the site. Built a floor with 3/4 inch plywood for durability. Secured that to 2 x 6 x 14 treated lumber with some cross braces, made the joists 16 inch on center as well, much stronger. Put the entire thing on 4 x 4 treated. You will also have to buy shingles, tar paper, drip edge, roof nails, and caulk/paint etc. I used five bundles of shingles. I also used a starter shingle strip to make things easier. When it arrived I unpacked the entire thing and separated it by section (wall, door, roof, etc) for easier access. Not all of the pieces were labelled, I had to figure out some of them based on measurements. It had all the required pieces plus a few extra. All pieces were in pretty good condition, a few were warped or dinged, but hey, I am building a shed not a mansion. I also purchased extra lumber to make the studs 16 inch on center instead of the 24 in the instructions. This changed how I had to nail the siding on and I ended up adding a few more studs at the joints of the siding. I also replaced some of the wall lumber with 14 or 10 foot sections instead of cobbling together the pieces that come with the kit. I used 3 inch wood screws or 1.25 inch wood screws in most places instead of the provided nails. This made things much stronger but did add some construction time. Overall I am very satisfied with this shed. It is strong, looks good and the 10 x 14 size is perfect for all of my tools and toys. I ended up putting cedar shake shingles on to match the house, that added a lot of time and effort but the end result is great. A fun construction project well worth the investment and time.

Missing some boards I had to go have cut at a local lumberyard. Lots of the lumber that came with it was warped really bad and made it hard to get anything to line up. Would make more sense to not have so many spliced pieces that get put together instead of full length 2x4's. Definitely disappointing to say the least for 2600.00. So far the only thing that has halfway been okay going together has been the floor kit even though it has a bunch of splices as well. With all the hassles it should come with shingles and a roll of tar paper.

Unfortunately, our kit requires splicing due to everything has to fit on a 4x8 pallet. If you purchased material to replace missing/damaged/warped pieces please contact Handy Home at 800-221-1849 so a customer service representative can assist in getting you reimbursed, provided you still have the receipt. Instructions should be on the outside such as packing slip would be nice to know how many bundles of shingles or the size needed for metal roof

Thanks for the input. Instructions are inside with the packing. A full inventory is necessary prior to installation. Are sheds have not been tested for metal roof and will void the warranty. HandyHomeProducts

      Very disappointed...
The shed is awesome...HOWEVER, the fact that every picture shows windows and a gable.....Which are NOT mentioned in the write up...They tell you paint and shingles are extra...also the floor is extra...but no mention about the windows or gables...IT IS included in the phrase OPTIONS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO ARE EXTRA....How is the normal public to know what options that they are referring to??So the cost of my shed, which is not cheap...was increased by my having to buy windows, roof tiles, ramp, floor strong enough to hold a lawn tractor, and of course....paint...

Ordered 10 x14 to be delivered but it was consigned to a carrier that had no way of unloading it at my driveway. Thank goodness local Home Depot staff intervened and had their contract driver deliver it. Shed design is pathetic! A 10 X 14 foot floor has to be constructed in three sections, 8X10, 4X10 and 2X 10. No self respecting engineer or carpenter would do this. The 14 ft wall is also in three sections, which makes it less than strong as a wall. I refuse to build this way so spent the extra bucks to buy four 14 Ft and four 10 ft. bottom and top plates to give it some integrity. Who ever the genius was that put the package together put the wall joists at the bottom so I had to move all the roofing materials, doors and trim to get to the joist. Pretty sick joke! Also, my bad, didn't see the walls are only f 6 FT so I added a one foot perimeter around the top and put clear plexiglass in it to give me a seven ft ceiling and allow some light in. All in all, I wish I'd just purchased the materials myself and made a shed from scratch. Would have saved money and head aches. Lastly, you have to tear the package apart to find the instructions. Would have been simpler to put them in an envelop with the packing slip so you could read the construction before.

The wood in the kit was bowed and in poor shape. With the wood being in poor shape it was extremely hard to get the shed squandered. The roof kit need to be more heavy duty it was poor and low quality. The instructions are very confusing and hard to understand. Long story short I had to put together a 10x10 and add the 4ft section later. I would not recommend this kit to anyone. You are better off building your own. The cost would be cheaper and you can have a better quality shed......

Nice shed, when we actually recieved it...
Overall, we are happy with the purchase. Getting it delivered was a different story. We were notified with common carrier that the shed kit would arrive within a 4 hour window on a certain day. I called early that day and found out that kit could not be delivered by them due to weight restrictions of their lift gate and the need for 2 drivers to handle it. the common carrier was to resolve the issue. a week passed and i finally went to my local HD store where I asked why the shed was in a location only 50 minutes away for over a week and sent to a place that couldn't deliver it? When another trucking company got involved they arrived as expected, on time. However, they had no way of getting it off the truck, so they proceeded to open the box and unload by hand, piece by piece. Everything was there needed to build the shed. I have to say though that the labeling of the pieces is lackluster, forcing one to decipher sizes and make assumptions. They state something about nominal dimensions verse actual but some aren't even close. The quality is what you would expect, plenty of fasteners to build it. Make sure your ground is level or make provisions to support the floor structure (came with kit) as 2x4 floor joists are undersized for this application. Its up to you whether you build the floor yourself with your materials or pay for theirs. If I were to do it again, I would design and build the floor myself.

        10 x 14 somerset shed
I had the same experience as many of the other reviewers. the kit came with several missing boards and then several boards were so badly warped, i had to go and get new ones made at home depot. but on one step, with the trim, the Handy Homes company sent trim pieces to another kit i did not buy and the home depot people could not make these items for the kit i bought as they had a unique texture that was not in the store. so i called the shed manufacturer and they sent more trim pieces. but amazingly, they sent the wrong ones again that went to a different model shed. this is after i told them the exact part numbers of the missing pieces i needed from their assembly instruction manual. i ended up just fabricating an entirely different trim that looked halfways decent. but i had to get that trim on as the roof shingles could not be put on until that roof trim was on and the HOA was going to cite me as this construction of this shed had been taking weeks due to above problems. But my biggest complaint is with the instructions and the way they package the kit. the instructions are made such that you can configure it differently, which is good. but its hard for the consumer to find his configuration and then follow the steps for that configuration when assembling the shed. then they do not label the parts in the kit. since there are literally hundreds of pieces, identifying each and every one of them is a daunting project when there is no sticker or marking on the part saying its "ZPT" or whatever. then i found some instances in the instructions where they were outright wrong. when i called the Handy Homes 800 number, they looked up the part i was questioning them about in the assembly instructions and they tell me "oh, thats a misprint. there is no part by that name, the part is actually... " But like everyone else, the home depot store was very helpful and the people who would answer the phone at Handy Homes were polite and tried to help. but sending me the wrong trim pieces after i specifically told them the missing parts to send by using their own numbers?? . but what they need to do is redo the assembly instructions so they are easier to understand, label all the parts, and then make sure the quality of the boards they are sending out are usable and not warped so badly they look like a pasta noodle. but as this kit is being sold now with these deficiencies, i would not recommend it to anyone

          Functional, Good Value
some of the wood was substandard. Needed to make adjustments on the fly. I think when they list the tools needed they should come out and build it for you with the five tools they say you need.

          never again
I bought this product because of the reviews and was I disappointed. 2x4s and 2x6s were warped. Had to go out and buy more wood to build the shed. Home depot did give us 100 dollar gift certificate. They also said it was curb side delivery. It was curbside, I had to unload it by hand, that is piece by piece that is 1300 pounds.

Horrible instructions; did not know upfront that the 10 x 14 shed waas actually a 10 x 10 with an added section. This meant piecing smaller wood
I was very disappointed from the beginning. the people at Home Depot were all very nice and helpful. The directions were not clear. I was never told that buying a 10 x 14 size shed meant that I really was purchasing a 10 x 10 shed with an addition of a 4 x 10 section pieced together with smaller lengths of wood. This definitely affected the integrity and strength of the shed. I had to modify it and purchase more wood of the proper lengths to insure a well built shed. I will never order something like this from you on line unless this system is changed.

          Ask for details!
We ordered this shed at our local home depot. No one bothered to disclose that the shed does not come as pictured. the shed does not include windows or the gable over the door which will add an additional $300 to the total price of the shed. It also didn't come in the size we ordered 10x14. Instead, the company will send you a kit for a 10x10 and an extension kit for a 10x4. It is more trouble than its worth. We are returning the 10x14 shed opted for a 10x10 with windows and a gable to stay within budget.

Great shed with few flaws (Used for Eagle Project)
The Somerset 10ft. by 14ft. shed was a great pick for my Boy Scout Eagle Project where I built the shed for a non-prophet organization in Ocean City, MD called Diakonia. The shed itself was shipped in two pieces, the actual shed and the 4ft. extension. Some parts were weathered and warped but I am not sure if it was because of it being in the rain for a half of a day or not. All parts of the shed were in the package, which was a part I was weary about because other reviews said the shed lacked pieces. Note that the color of the shed is not the same as the one in the picture and does not come with windows or the peak over the door as shown in the picture!!! Overall the Somerset shed was a perfect size and had tons of room inside and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a larger style shed with tons of room. -Kevin (Future Eagle Scout)

            Big Project, good results
This is a well planned kit, and most of the pre-cut parts fit together as expected. There was plenty of hardware included, but two pieces of lumber were missing. The instruction manual was very thorough, and although I am not a carpenter, I was able to complete the shed in 4 long days of building.

              Somerset 10x14
I bought this unit in 2005 and I really like it. I had HD build the shed but I poured my own 10 x 15' concrete slab. I was surprised when only one contractor showed up to build the shed. I thought this was at least a two man job but he did a great job on the installation. The build took about 5 hours. The unit is very sturdy and roomy. I had one skylight installed but no windows. I should have had 1 window installed but for security I opted not to. The unit holds plenty of items e.g. riding lawn mower, push mower, lawn vac, several bikes, patio table and chairs (disassembled) and other tools. With it's 2x4 construction, I plan to install some shelves to take advantage of the vertical space. It really took a burden off my 2.5 car garage. It has weathered 1 Michigan winter so far with no complaints. It has been a very wise investment. Ok now the cons. My unit came with a floor kit which I didn't use because of the slab. The installer left me the wood floor but took the 4 4x4 posts. Also given the number of shingle packs the guy showed up with I thought there would be a few left over for future emergency repairs but he stated he used them all which I questioned. I left it alone because he did a great job on the installation but if I pay for it leave it! HD called me after the install and asked if I was satisfied which was great. I voiced my concerns about the cons but again I left it alone. It wasn't worth a fight. BTW I did recommend this unit to a coworker. He purchased 2 units for his apartment building and was also very satisfied. Overall, if you are short on garage space, get this unit. It's great!

                Different!
Number 1, All the pictures show windows, This kit DOES NOT HAVE WINDOWS!!! This should be changed to reflect what you actually get! 2, It took weeks for the kit to show up. Then it sat in town for over a week waiting to be delivered. Home Depot and Estes trucking were great, but the local company (alstar moving) was a nightmare. 3, The unit showed up with parts missing and 6 of the floor kit boards warped beyond use. There were NO instructions with the kit. 4, The On-Line instructions and part list are WRONG. The company was helpful and E-mailed me the correct ones within minutes of my phone call, and I would suggest that for any purchaser. 5, The rest of the wood and parts are better than most lumber you can get now days. Cuts and condition were very good. Although not built yet, construction looks straightforward.

                  shed review
pros: most pieces already cut and ready to assemble - came with a ton of nails cons: the instructions I downloaded off the internet and the ones that came with the shed were different - poor quality of wood used (had to buy & cut some) - 2 2x4's missing from kit - instructions are mainly one word per page illustrations which is confusing - you definately need moderate to advanced building skills for the kit to come together I would recommend it to a friend but with a warning.

At this time I cannot comment on the storage building. Will be glad to once construction is completed. Parts damaged upon delivery, in addition to being placed directly on the ground. Once I notify company of the damaged parts, they will replace them.
