Unfortunately, a capacitor is an electronic piece that can go bad and need to be replaced in a small percentage of fans, no matter the model. We understand that this can be frustrating and make replacement parts available to save the cost of replacing an entire fan. As a wet rated fan, the fan is required to have ABS blades to withstand direct exposure to water. In general, the fan should only be operated with the included blades. Changing the blades to the wood ones from the 56 or 68" version mat lead to motor damage.

This fan is wet rated for use in any outdoor location and is required to have the ABS blades to withstand direct exposure to water. Wood blades installed in a wet location would eventually be damaged. All of the other versions of the fan (48", 56", and 68") include hand carved wood blades.

Thank you for your question. If installed with a light, the fan's blue wire (light power) needs to be connected to a separate power source. If the fan's black wire (fan speed) and blue wire (light power) are connected to the same power wire from the house, the light will not function properly.
