Sliding door security
Product has cheap screws. Even after following the instructions pre drilling the hole the screw heads snapped off. Had to use other screws to complete the installation see picture provided

I've had two of these on my sliders for almost three years now and am happy with them overall. This morning, the bottom part of one lock broke off inside. It was on the door that we use the most. I called Lock It! and they are sending me the part straight away...no waiting in a long phone queue to get a non-English speaking rep on the phone, either...a native Texan picked up right away and is sending the part out right now, in spite of the fact that the warranty is only good for one year. God bless this company for hiring Americans and standing behind their products. 4 stars only because one of them did break after 3 years.

Purchased the Lockit about a month ago. We love it. Helps to make you feel more secure. I've added two pics. 1 pic to show the door locked with just the latch, and the other showing the door locked with the latch AND Lockit as well. You can see the space closed up, locking it tighter with the Lockit. And its high enough that our little guy cant reach it.

This is an excellent solution for locking sliding doors. I could not give it a 5-star overall rating ONLY due to the sub-standard hardware (mounting screws) included in the package. Do yourself a favor, pick up qty 3 of #8x1-1/4" and qty 4 of #8x1/2" stainless pan head screws per unit your intending to install. I have installed two sets with this order and will be installing two more sets to secure all the sliders in our vacation home. Watch the on-line installation video and scrap the included instructions. Be especially aware while drilling into door unit to avoid hitting the glass. Total installation time was approximately 45 minutes for two units.

These locks are great for home owners of older aluminum framed sliding glass doors. Over time the doors get crude and debris within the overlapping lock joints of the frames of the doors. This ultimately causes the doors not to latch 100% at either end or in the middle (depending on your set up). Putting the LOCKiT! on all latched ends of a sliding glass door assembly helps to keep the door locked tight and gives a nice visual from far away that the door is also secured. I have these on my personal home sliders (5 years) and have also installed about 40+ units for multiple clients in my neighboring communities. For me personally the only modification that i would suggest prior to installation is to ensure that the plastic sliding pieces up and down on the side that is towards the sliding door is completely smooth and devoid of any raised areas. Over time this will cause the paint to scratch away on the sliding doors for heavy used openings. I take a hand plane and take off a minor amount of plastic and also bevel the edges. I do this as an added curtsy to do what i can to keep the device from any unwanted marring of the sliding door frame (see picture attached to this review).

I installed LOCKiT July 17, 2017 on a door that gets used a few times a day. Today, December 13, 2018, the clip that hold it open when you unlock it broke. Now the locking mechanism comes completely off. Avoid. Fragile plastic junk used on a wear part that should clearly be made of durable metal.

We got this as a supplement to the foot operated lock located at the bottom of the sliding door. It's very strong and super easy to install. We mounted it higher up as the plate that mounts to the jamb protrudes out from the jamb a bit. The supplied screws were a bit short so we substituted 2" stainless. It also makes your door impossible to lift off the tracks which was the primary reason for us installing it.

Excellent option to reinforce the basic locks that comes with most sliding doors. The 3 color options (white, black and brown) will match any sliding door out there. Easy to install. Recommend to use masking tape over the sliding door to mark up the holes to drill. Also recommend to ensure the door is completely closed and lock when marking the 4 holes on the securing bracket. Leave a very tiny gap to ensure the door do not stop by hitting on the plate before the door is completely closed. If the plate does not align with the bracket, it might be necessary to add some type of spacer on the plate like a flat washer.

This is a good product because it will do what it advertises it will do. However, I could not use either of the latches included with this product, because they were not shaped correctly for my door or they were not long enough to reach the locking bars. I contacted the Lockit company by email and they got back to me right away. They over-nighted another latch to me. I did manage to get this Lockit installed with a few small adjustments. It works fine and I was very pleased with the outcome. I did not need to use a drill on the actual sliding part of the door. I was hesitant to use a drill because of shattering the glass. I used a large nail and tapped it with a hammer to make a small hole in the metal of the door and just turned the screw into the holes on the Lockit bolt. Previous to doing this, I measured and marked the door precisely so I would not make a mistake. In the actual frame of the door jam I felt better about using a drill for the holes and all went well. The Lockit works fine and it looks like it belongs on the door as a second lock. I am an older woman and installed this by myself. I would have given this 5 stars if the correct latch would have been included with the package but the customer service with the Lockit company was superior.

I ordered three locks for my sliding glass doors. They arrived in a couple of days and were exactly what I had ordered. The quality of these locks is very good and the pricing was reasonable. They were very easy to install and work great ! I am no longer able to rock the door out of its track when the lock is engaged. They are hard to notice so a burglar would not likely see it to attack it. My family feels much safer.

        Works great! Looks Great!
Follow the rule measure twice and drill once and you will have no problems installing this lock. Very happy with the security it provides without having to bend over to deal a the dowel in the bottom of the door well. It is very tight at first so you might need to add a little WD-40 to loosen up the mechanisms.

        Strong and easy to install
My husband installed this lock. He is handy with tools but is not a professional. He had no trouble. This lock is sturdy and serves the purpose. In our neighborhood folks were saying that the locks on the patio doors and inadequate. Everyone was buying this lock but most used a handyman to do the installation.

        Can't Even Tell It's There
A great product which was very easy to install even for one such as myself with limited DYI skills. Took less than 20 minutes. We have double sliders so needed two lock and do they ever work great. Only way someone is getting in is to break the glass out. Ordered on-line with free delivery and was shipped immediately getting to us in two days. Talk about no hassle shopping!

Does not work on Vinyl Doors
This product did not install at all. This should have a large disclaimer saying it works great for wood windows, but very poorly on vinyl. The spacers, which I needed to use due to my jamb length, were a joke (cheap plastic, which bent when any torque was applied to the screws). The bracket made the door unable to close, until I bent it with a hammer. The lock part was unable to attach to my sliding door at all, which has a steel core behind the vinyl. I ended up having to use washers for the spacers, and double stick tape to attach the lock to the door itself, which I am lucky I had at home already. For a $30 product, I needed to improvise to get it to even work, which is aggravating when you spend so much. Also, with the double stick tape, it does not provide any real security. We mainly bought this as a child lock, so it works for this purpose, but I would not trust it against a burglar. Also, more companies need to learn from Ikea. Diagrams speak louder then paragraphs of words, but a small picture of a woman holding the unit against the door is not even close to sufficient. Simple diagrams are very helpful, and should be used more often instead of small black and white photos.

couldn't replace the lock and handle on patio doors that had been so badly damaged by previous owners. This product saved us from having to replace the whole door. It secures the door just like it says and for under 50 dollars!

          Great replacement lock!
The lock on my sliding glass door went bad and I was told due to the age of the door I needed to replace the entire door. I was able to remove the existing lock and replace it with LOCKiT. The ONLY complaint I would have is the color of it. I would have liked it to be completely white to match my door. But it still looks great even with the small amount of black in it. In my opinion, it works better that the old lock and is way more secure.

Be Prepared to use some ingenuity in installation
The directions packaged with the product make it sound so simple, but it isn't necessarily so. In my case, the door was in a concrete opening, with air gap between the metal of the door channel and the concrete. So, the included plastic anchors were far too short and couldn't be inserted through the frame into the concrete behind. My solution was drill through the frame and into the concrete, with a hammer drill and a 3/16 concrete drill bit, and use three 3/16 by 2 inch concrete screws from hardware store. Also, I could not achieve a flush mounting of the lock on the door frame without creating a shim with multiple layers of double faced 3M tape. I also found it best to use the lock parts themselves as templates for drilling, so the drill bit would not "walk" off center.
