I have used this product fir 24 hours, with the trim line that came in the unit. I have used both the edging and trimming settings.
Edging took a little to get used to but once I did it was a breeze and very effective. (see images)
Using the switch to flip between the two settings only seems to work to go to the edging setting. I have to pick it up and mess with it to get it back to trimmer, and when I do and the unit is rotating, I can hear specs of dirt grinding in between - and keep in mind this is after just maybe 2 hours of use.
While weed eating, the trim line has, on more than one occasions 1) broken down to less than 1/2 inch and not extended out due to being twisted inside the spool (no image) and 2) extended, not auto cut and get caught up on the rotating motor! (see image) I was able the yank it out the first time, but I can't get it out the second time so, after about 4 hours of use, I will be returning it.

The blade cover slide off
The trimmer is great. Sturdy, cuts through thick shrubs. It's not heavy.
But the protective sleeve, blade sheath or blade cover does not hold tight to the blade. It's slide off the blade easy when carrying the trimmer around.
Not need to pull the blade sleeve to remove it since it does not adjust tight. It always slide off when I hang it on the wall.

Easy to use, powerful, and plenty of battery time
I bought this last week and am really glad! Our house front yard is maintained by an HOA. However, the shrubs in the front yard near the front door have just been let go. They finally got to looking like a massive shrub jungle - UGLY! So I took matters into my own hands and used the Ryobi 18V hedge trimmer. I bought the tool only because I already have two other Ryobi tools and two batteries and a charger.
Starting from scratch there was a LOT of trimming and shaping to do. I did most of it using one battery. I had to start using the second battery before I was done, but finished up without using much of the second battery.
I was a little apprehensive about shaping the shrubs at first, but I found the trimmer so easy to use that it was just like sculpting the shrubs, a little at a time. I ended up with three shrubs that are on the ground but with rounded edges and a trimmed top. Two of the shrubs had a "globe" shape (a big ball) at one time. I just trimmed from the bottom up, curving around as I went. I still have more work to do on the two shrubs to the left, but they look a lot better than the overgrown conjoined mess they were.
One feature I really like and used a lot was the ability to rotate the head/handle with respect to the blade up to 90 degrees in either direction. This made it very easy to have a comfortable handle on the trimming no matter what side or angle I came from.
It seemed to have plenty of power and cut right thru some hard branches that were 1/4" diameter with no hesitation. Quite powerful.
If you have hedges, I suggest you get one of these and use it instead of relying on a yard service for hedge trimming.

Getting the Job Done!
I’ve been trimming my hedge for 12 years with a corded trimmer thinking a cordless just would not be strong enough to do the job. I was totally wrong, Just got this today and went straight out to try it out. Not only did it out perform the old one, it kicked behind. I am use to the job taking an hour, plus having to get the hand trimmer out to get the tough branches. This one died the job in 30 minutes and it chopped down everything, branches up to 3/4 inch thick! That is amazing! Paired up with the 4 AH batteries, it was unstoppable! Start your summer out right, Make your yard care easier!

Excellent Chainsaw
I bought this Ryobi 12 inch Chainsaw for my wife being that she usually can not start the gas chainsaw. She really loves this saw. The wood cut in the pictures using a 9.0 Ah battery. It still had 1 bar left on the battery and was still cutting well.
This is a very user friendly Ryobi product.
Highly recommend this chainsaw!!

Just what I hoped it would be
I have never had a battery trimmer before, so I was a bit worried that it would die before I got everything done. Not only did it do everything I needed it to do, but it still had half the battery left. About 20 minutes. I also used it as an edger and that worked much better than expected. It trimmed the drive quick fast and clean. I'll add a picture. It does use string, but so did my gas powered trimmer. I'm very happy.

I love this tool!! I just bought a property that had not been lived on for almost two years. Every bush was out of control, including the suckers at the base of many trees, and needed trimming. Since I'm a Ryobi guy, I have plenty of batteries and many of Ryobi's tools, but was a little concerned that this couldn't handle the job. I shouldn't have worried. This trimmer cut through everything I needed cut, and many that surprised me! I did expect it to go through batteries fairly quickly and it did not. This made a messy, job easy, without the hassle of electrical cords or gasoline. Couldn't have asked for more.

The Ryobi 1, 12 inch 18 V chainsaw exceeds my expectations at the moment. Because of a disability it has allowed me to cut more wood and quicker than I’ve been able to with the gas chainsaw. On top of that it doesn’t smell of gas and oil. I would recommend the chainsaw to anybody. Unfortunately the only downside is the inadequate service that I received from Home Depot.

Excellent product so far. Right out of the box it cut like butter, had no jams, and was easy to handle. Wasn't very heavy and was pretty quiet compared to some others. I'm starting to build my Ryobi empire with all these outdoor tools. Side note: the electric mower is awesome!

I love my leaf blower! I've been using it nearly every day at work for almost two years to clean up leaves, acorns, walnuts, branches, wood chips, rocks & gravel, junk from messy customers --EVERYTHING-- to keep my work facility looking good. The blower is heavy-duty enough to take care of all of these materials but not too heavy to blow out my elbow as I "sweep" it all up. I tried one of the smaller Ryobi blowers but it didn't do the job well enough tho it was nice & light-weight.
The trigger is touch-sensitive and has different speed settings depending how hard you depress the mechanism. Many of the negative reviews were about the battery not lasting long, which can happen if you use the blower on constant "high" power. You can use it on a low setting to get the lighter stuff moving, then graduate to full power for bigger items or wet leaves that stick to the ground. Using my blower this way I'll get plenty of life out of my battery to finish an entire corporate yard.

Can get the yardwork job done
This is a great little saw that is more than capable of handling most yardwork saw needs. The saw is capable of limbing most trees and can take down your smaller trees if needed. The battery can easily power the brushless motor through most wood types. If you are looking for an industrial type saw this is not it but if you need something to clean up the yard this is the saw for you. The only thing I didn’t like was that there are no extra contacts for HP batteries to communicate with the brushless motor.

I liked that this is a trimmer/edger unfortunately it has some issues when used as an edger. Mine is now 1yr 3mos old (3 yr warranty) and the eyelet where the string comes out is worn so now when used as an edger it puts to much stress on the line and it breaks off at the eyelet after edging about 2 feet every time. I would recommend this if being used as a trimmer but not as an edger. By the way if you dont live near a warranty center which I dont you can have Home Depot ship it for repairs but you must pay a $18.95 diagnostic fee and they told me it takes a minimum of 6 weeks to get repaired and shipped back. Unfortunately I cant wait that long so basically the 3 year warranty is no value add for me.

Works great - I highly recommend. After my 20+ corded hedge trimmer finally gave out, I decided to go with this one. I already had a number of 18V Ryobi tools so I did not need another battery or charger. I was amazed at how well this cut, how long the battery lasted and how easy it was to use - I did not have to worry about where the cord was.

Very happy with the use of this trimmer. Not having to deal with a extension cord to trim my hedges has made it so much easier. A 4 amp battery was more than enough power to trim all of my shrubs in the front of my house. This way money well spent on a useful tool.

This saw is amazing! One of the coolest features is you do not need any tools to adjust chain tension-just turn the knob on the side! I was concerned its small size and being run on 18 volts would result in poor performance...was I wrong! In one evening I cut down appox. a dozen trees of varied diameters (thanks to the Ash bore beetle) One rotten tree (in pic) as big as 18" and most trees were around 8"-10"... most of the trees were cut in 12 foot logs and some into fireplace size. The tops were cut up as well for yard clean up. The reason to mention this is to let people know of run time: As expected new batteries performed the best... with one battery taking care of a 8" diameter tree including top cleanup. If you have a large job make sure you have extra batteries on hand. Older batteries... saw needed needed 2 per tree.
My neighbor was amazed he didn't hear any chainsaw running. Soooo quiet!
