I have had none of the surface failures other reviewers report. My surfaces were in very rough condition to start, and in each case I made it rougher by aggressively power-washing. Then I waited for a dry spell with the temperatures recommended in the manual, did the absorption test as described in the manual, and applied. I did not prime as recommended in the manual: this was not a recommendation at the time I did the first 2 decks, and I had really good results. So I took my chances this time.
The manual does call for setting and filling the fasteners. I did set them, but did not fill them on the 2 previous decks. I had a few nails telegraph a small spot of rust, but for me working those few spots several years later was less labor/ worth the trade of doing all of them at the start.
I chose a light color, and it is definitely cooler than the raw wood; nevertheless, in direct sunlight, it can still get too hot for my feet. Again, it is cooler than the raw wood, probably because of the lighter color. Any clouds, shade, or water at all, and the temp is quickly within the comfort range.
Once you go with this stuff, it is a commitment: you are not getting it off economically without a re-deck. But I really like it, and my friends like the look and the feel. I had other coatings fail on the same decks. This stuff worked really well for me, but I was really methodical with how I did the prep (especially after the previous fails and the cost of this product). When I see some of the failures in the other reviews, I recognize characteristics of the way my previous coatings failed. In each case it was because of me skipping something (like power washing aggressively enough, leaving an old coating on (even if it didn't look like it), putting it on in too cold-hot- wet) etc. But my experience with the 10x has been great. I suspect it would work for most if you get the surface really clean, really rough, and really dry, and then apply in the right temp range. Pretty much like the directions say...
