CHECK YOUR TARP BEFORE APPLYING! !! We purchased the 20 x25 tarp for temporary protection on a leaking roof before a rainstorm. Unfortunately it did not work to keep the leak out. After the storm we went to inspect & see if maybe our placement on the roof was wrong & we found that one of the woven strands in the tarping material was just not there, creating an opening 1/4 to 1/2 of the way down the tarp, at about 3 feet in from the side. So disappointing. We purchased tarp tape & covered the separated seam but so far haven't had any rain to test it. Pretty much a waste of out time & money as a waterproof fix. The adhesive is incredibly sticky, but once water gets in, it will lift off.

The "self-adhering" aspect of this tarp is the factor that is supposed to separate this tarp from a traditional tarp. Unfortunately the adhesive strip was in no way adhesive. Not only did it not adhere to the roof, it didn't even adhere to my finger. Over-rated, much too expensive tarp that does not even measure a full 10'x12'.

It's just a tarp
As shown in my photos (taken from my first story roof), it comes very compact, and is easy to open by one person, but, two people is probably easier and safer. It spread easily and stayed down (no breeze during my installation). It has double-stick tape which has a protective strip over it. Rather than remove all the strips (one along each edge), I removed a small part of one strip (see photo), and attempted to stick it to my asphalt shingle. It would not adhere to the shingle for even a second. I attached it to my bare skin, but, it stayed on for only about three seconds. I even attached it to the tarp (i.e., bending it over onto itself), but, it held only for a couple of seconds. Worse, the tape came off the tarp, itself, which, had I removed all the strips, would have been very difficult to clean up, and, probably, would have blown away in even a light wind! Considering the cost of $63 - - triple the price of similar sized, non-adhesive, tarps available through many vendors and stores, both online and brick-and-mortar - - you'd think the UTARPit manufacturer could have come up with a better system. The grommets seem sturdy, but I did not have a need for them, so, I did not test their sturdiness (many tarps that I've used in the past had grommets that separated or tore fairly easily; this one's grommets seem sturdier, but not much better). The tarp can be used for a variety of purposes, other than roofing, such as a floor protector for painting, covering a firewood stack, wintering a picnic table or even an outdoor shed, etc., though its huge size may make it unwieldy or cumbersome for smaller purposes. It would also make a good cover for a flower bed or other gardening purpose, though it would have to be covered to hide the blue color! (some time ago, I used a tarp to cover the bare ground, then put pebbles over it to turn it into a rock garden, with the tarp acting as a weed barrier). All-in-all, if you ignore the adhesion claim, it is a fairly sturdy tarp, but, it is nothing special, and, definitely, way too expensive, especially where there are less expensive alternatives easily available.

Works fine
We actually used this tarp to cover a cord wood chicken coop we were building. It worked quite well until our high winds took it off somewhat. It stuck to the sides of the coop, which is made of concrete and cut cord wood slices, so that we could drape it over the whole coop. Even though the wind took it off on one side, it didn't rip or tear - a plus. We'd use this kind of tarp again if needed.

Good Idea, Poorly Made
I really wanted to give this product only 1 star, but I have to admit that the concept is still pretty cool. I bought it a month ago and immediately noticed how thin it is. When I put it on the roof some of the "basket weaving" was already separated and you could see holes in it. Low and behold, a month later with a few days of rain, it didn't hold up. I'm doing what another reviewer did and going to a heavier tarp and nailing it down. Wish this company made a heavier tarp.

    Easy to use
This is a great product for a quick fix. The adhesive runs along the perimeter & is pretty thick. I was weary of how well it would hold but it has worked for days now. As another reviewer mentioned, it would be nice if the adhesive strips ran across the middle of the tarp as well. The tarp itself is middle of the of road, not very thick but not very thin either. It is good enough to last for a few days until permanent repairs can be made to the roof. I think this is a really good product to be used for emergencies.

    Sturdy tarp
This tarp is sturdy and waterproof, what else would you ask for from a tarp?

    Great protection.
I would recommend this product for any household use. This tarp can be used on different surfaces. The self adhesive tape is very strong and holds well. Easy to install with just one person. No nails or hammers needed, which make the job easy. I used this tarp to cover my wood pile outside, the tarp is very strong and can hold up to the weather. I have also used this tarp to cover the slide out on my camp trailer, it keeps water from running inside my trailer. The metal corner holes are strong enough for tie downs. This tarp has such a wide variety of uses.

Normal Tarp, Heavy Double Sided Strip of Glue on Outside Edges,
Slightly disappointed, as I do intend on using this alone. Their flyer says this is for is roof coverage after Hurricane damage. We had that type of damage after Katrina. If it's windy it would work better to have more strips of tape down the middle to make it easier to lay out flat in the wind. I would not want one end to whip up back into my face. I'm keeping this for an emergency, whether it is with my auto or house, It can be used on shingles, tile or concrete and is not flame retardant. This is a tarp, feels like other tarps I have, plastic and lightweight. This small size is usable for a single person with only glue/tape on 4 edges. I've hiked to isolated UN Refugee Camps and would include this in my backpack for emergency situations, more strips of glue is better. Slightly pricey.

Very well made, great for emergencies
OVERALL: Better waterproofed than other "blue tarps" I've had. Excellent gromets. Glue sticks very well, and should withstand most winds, great for emergencies. UTILITY: Glue will probably only stick once, but the tarp is strong enough to reuse for other purposes later if so inclined. Gromets would make tarp reusable tied down. WATERPROOFING: Ran some basic pooling tests, held water when pulling, bending or shaking tarp. Coating is very solid. GLUE: Not just a thin tape like layer, thick layer of very sticky glue. As long as the surface is clean, you shouldn't have any trouble getting this stuff to stick.

Great Roof Protection -AND Made in the USA!!
I am so pleased to see that this roofing tarp is made in the USA! It is an excellent choice for a quick and easy way to protect your roof until it can be repaired. It is not too thick, but that should make it easier to handle while up on the roof. The edges have a clear colored, rubbery, self-adhesive strip about 2" wide all around to keep the damaged area dry, which is a great feature. There are also grommets on this tarp about every 30". After having been a position to need one of these, but having none on hand, I am now comforted to know that I am prepared in the future if I should need a covering for a damaged roof. This is well made, and I am confident that it will perform well. Although it is not an important factor, I really would have liked a color other than blue.

    Good Trap
It is a blue tarp with tape on it covering a sticky strip, so you can use it on a roof if you get damage. It is designed to add to your hurricane (or tornado) survival kit. I'll stash it away for future use. I wish it was a nice brown instead of bright blue then I could use it as a permanent cover on my shed but that's okay.

Holds in place very well. Does the job!
I love this tarp because you don't have to use nails! My roof has one small spot that leaks and this tarp is going to keep things dry until the contractor comes to fix it. It has a really wide very sticky border that sticks very well. I like that it sticks all around because it seals the area off, whereas if you had to use nails, water could stll run underneath. I am not the one who went up on the roof but the man who did said it would hold well on many different types of materials. He is just as impressed as me. The material is strong and it appears that it will last so after the leak is fixed, I'm going to use it on my little backyard storage unit to keep the rain/snow out. Made in the USA which is a wonderful thing. I do recommend this tarp.

Damaged Roof? Fix it with UTARPit!
This UTARPit Roofing Tarp has been designed for home or business use, best used when your roof takes damage. This tarp is designed to lay flat on your roof and then has a 3" thick adhesive on the border to peel and seal to the roof. Lay the tarp down, peal the white waxy paper strips off to expose the adhesive strip and press firm to the roof. This will help in the even your roof takes damage and starts to leak. This tarp is not very thick. If tarps are rated from 1 to 3 for thickness and long term durability, this tarp is a 1. This doesn't mean it's bad or weak, it's just not meant to stay on long term or be dragged across surfaces. You would not want to put a lot of weight on this tarp and move it. This will cause it to rip. Overall, this tarp is perfect if you need a 20x25 tarp to cover any damage. I would also recommend this tarp as a drop cloth.

    Hurricane or storm preparedness kit
The tarp is the typical thickness for a general purpose heavy duty tarp, the same thickness as heavy duty tarps sold by Home Depot. What sets this one apart is the additional of a thick strip of peel-n-stick adhesive. This helps create a waterproof seal between the edge of the tarp and the area it is covering. The adhesive covers all four edges, but nowhere else. Worth noting, it the fact that this tarp, along with the adhesive strip, has grommets along all 4 edges. Some other tarps I own only have grommets on two of the four edges. The tarp forms part of our hurricane preparedness kit, and hopefully we won't ever need to use it. If we do, I feel confident it will do its job very well.

    Great product
The UTARPit 8 x 10 does what the manufacture says. It is a tarp that only takes one person to put into place. It has self adhesive tape that is very easy to just push down and secure. You can use it on barrel tile, ashphalt, shingles, slate, fiberglass, concrete and metal surfaces. Very versatile for any use. No need for a hammer and nails or sandbags for weight. You can use this tarp for any roof damage, to prevent any further leaks. I put the tarp over my shed, some shingles have come off and I don't want water to leak in. I had no problem putting it in place by myself. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a great weather proof tarp.

A thoughtful product with hurricane in mind.
This tarp is made of highly durable material, with the thought of protecting people in the event of a rain disaster on the roof of the house. One person can do the job, since it is light weight, yet durable. The heavy duty peel and stick glue will stick to anything. I put it on top of my asphalt shingle roof, when a few shingle flew away in the wind, and started leaking. This tarp protected me from further damage until the roof repair man came a few days later.

    Excellent product, marketing is weak
Got a hole in your roof? UTARPit! This is a high quality tarp with STICKY EDGES. You can temporarily cover a damaged roof, QUICKLY, without a hammer, and without nail-damage to complicate later repair. This would normally be used immediately after a storm. It happened that I had a hole in a shed roof, not an emergency, so a good chance to try UTARPit before a real emergency. The roof was corrugated tarboard, a very tough job. The whole roof has to be replaced, but it would be nice if I can get-by until next summer. The valleys were full of dirt so I wire-brushed them sorta-clean. Then I rough-spread the UTARPit to find the center of the top. I tore-off the center of the protective paper over the sticky-edge, and worked it into the top center corrugations. It stuck real good, and easy. I worked to the left side, then peeled the side-strip a foot at a time and worked that down the side. Shift the ladder to the right and stuck the top and other side, then across the bottom. Total time, 22 minutes, including taking pictures. No tools or nails to haul-up, spill, or make more damage in the roof (not that I care here, but often a storm damages a good roof and you prefer not to damage it further with temporary cover-ups). The attached pictures show the hole, part-done, and all done. BUT-- This is an "emergency" product. It should be clearly packaged and readily available after a storm. Instead the packaging artwork is a mess of fonts and irrelevant words on pointless backgrounds. It doesn't SHOUT what it is good for. "Got a hole in your roof? UTARPit!" And at this time Home Depot only offers it Special Order, which means you must schedule your hurricane at least 2 weeks in advance. While I suppose some wise folks will plan-ahead and be prepared, it really should be IN the H-D, and stacked near the door ASAP after any major storm.

The tarp is sturdy and has kept the rain out of the inside of our house. I like the taped edges, and this has held up through some windy, rainy weather. It was easy to place onto the roof in about 15 minutes.

I hope it’s covering an “invisible” storm leak on top of a steep roofed 2-story that a roofer installed. So, I can’t speak to the effectiveness of the installation. And, we haven’t had a downpour since. However, it was a partial area of the roof and spending the $500. to $1,000. I was quoted by a reconstruction company, the Utarpit was a good choice. The only problem is finding someone who knows what they’re doing. Roofers can do it for $2 or $3 hundred bucks…and the expectation that you will seriously consider them for s re-roof.
