They worked well. Easy to put in. I was a few short so I went to local store and found some similar. They were about the same price and seemed like they were stouter.

Holds the posts for my deck railings. Very secure.

This product was easy to install and provides really good stability to all my deck railing posts that I installed. Worth the investment in this product.

First of all this kit can be used in various situation besides just it's direct purpose as a deck tie. Evening is of very good quality, nicely packaged. The best part is that this kit is more cost effective compared to buying all parts separately, also price is lower than at the lumber yard. Just keep in mind that you would have to purchase a threaded rod and hex nuts separately if you plan to use it as deck tension tie.

Great product - easy to install - fabulous support of my railings...!

Used these to support 42" railing posts on 2x10 framing. You have to modify the install slightly for 36" vs 42" railing (see L-C-GRDRLPST4215). The problem we had was the instructions mention nothing about interference from the joist hangers. The bolt would go through a substantial portion of the hanger! So we nailed on a 1x board between the joist and the tension tie to space it out far enough. Is it as strong? I hope so!

They worked well only prob I found is the screws that came with them tended to strip out very easy I think they should have been threaded all the way instead of half way up

This is a very good product, but I don't understand why the double pack cost ($29.78) 1.5 times more than the single one ($10.44). Shouldn't the double pack be less expensive than the single? I hope HD fixes this.

Expensive but fulfills the county inspection

I didnt know about tension ties until inspector required for deck I built. After installing, I bought some for MY deck!

ALWAYS insall a tension tie on deck guardrail posts -- and be sure to read the directions on the Simpson Strong-Tie site because the details are important depending on the direction of the joists.

The rim joist was pulling away from the deck joists on my older deck so I added the tension ties to pull the rim joist in flush and add strength.

Worked well for my deck project...railing is solid as a rock.

These tension ties tightened up my deck railings perfectly. I now feel my railings are safe again and don’t have to worry about anyone getting hurt.

great for reinforcing an aging deck. Most builders assemble deck frames with nails and don't use joist hangers. Over decades the joists begin to separate, particularly at the rim joist if there are 4x4 railing supports attached directly to the rim joist with no other support. This is a great, simple way to pull the framing back together. Note that this doesn't come with the 1/2" bolts and nuts to actually draw the framing members together (because your needs will dictate the length of the bolts). Installed 6 of these ties (including drilling the 1/2" holes for the tie bolts and fastening and tightening/tensioning the tie bolts) in 30 minutes using a cordless drill and cordless impact driver. If separation is occurring at a railing post, put a tie on the two nearest joists on both sides of the post to tension the rim joist back into place and keep it there.

The DTT-ZMax is an absolute must in certain situations when building a deck and is especially handy when connecting a handrail post securely to the outside band of a deck where the handrail can't be fastened to another framing member. I was surprised and disappointed that Home Depot does not stock these. I would suggest that HD consider stocking this item because not only would it help complete their line of Simpson connectors but I would expect that it could be used for other applications as well.

They make a strong deck connection for posts or anywhere you have a 90 degree connection. We use them to reinforce rail posts sparingly as they are expensive.
