The InstaLOCK Remote Controlled Deadbolt Conversion Kit is an ingenious invention to convert a simple keyed deadbolt lock, with inside turn knob, into a smart lock. It simply fits right over an existing turn knob and uses magnets to hold the device securely to a metal door. Adhesive tape and a metal plate are also included for non-metal doors. The antique bronze finish is very pleasant and it also includes a turn knob for manual use inside. It comes with two preprogrammed remotes, and can be paired with up to eight remote controls. I was surprised at how easy this is to install, with no tools required. The only negative is that the remote control is much bulkier than just carrying a key. The remote control would be advantageous at night to avoid trying to find the right key in the dark. Overall, I am pleased with the performance of the Remote Controlled Deadbolt Conversion.

I thought about getting a smart lock for my door but didn't want to spend the money and change my keys so I found the instalock remote deadbolt conversion kit and really like the convenience of being able to place on any exterior deadbolt door at the house for my teenage kids after school or visiting family members. The keyless lock doesnt require hardware, it comes with 2 sets of adhesive strips and a metal plate incase you want to place on a non magnetic door or simple remove the metal plate and use the Magnetic backing on metal doors. It also works best on flush door sets and It operates on 4 AA batteries. I really like the keyless remotes it comes with, they are a good size to place on a key ring. It is very simple to operate, the top button is unlock and the bottom button is to lock. The unlocking mechanism can rotate either direction depending on which position the switch is in. This is really a quick fix for the poor man's smart lock and i really like the portability.

instaLOCK Remote Controlled Deadbolt Conversion Kit is a nice innovative idea to turn your usual deadbolt to a remote controlled one and avoid entering the key physically to turn it on/off. I have tested the remotes and they work from about 30 feet very well. Did not try to use it from any farther distance. I would defeinitely recommend this to anyone

Im really liking this remote controlled door lock that requires no tools for installation. It comes with the 4AA batteries installed and 2 remote controls so its all ready to go. My door is metal so all i needed to do was to remove the magnetized back plate, pull out the tab from the batteries and place the lock over my turn knob on the inside of the door. This is really great! If you have a wood door you`d have to use the sticky strips that are included. This door lock is so convenient for people who for instance have their hands full and cant get up close to the door to use their keys. I can see someone whose driving a mobility scooter benefitting from using a remote to unlock their front door. The only drawback is that it keeps "shifting" (video) when i use it so i need to attach some strips to stop this. The 2 remotes are easy to operate and has a blue light, can be attached to a keyring. This lock does not affect the outside look of your door and you can still use your key when the batteries die so your not locked out.

I picked up this InstaLOCK remote controlled (not app controlled) Deadbolt kit for my back door on the house. My kids use the back door more than any other door, but my wife and I rarely use it. We don't live in a high-crime area, but I like the comfort of knowing my home is as secure as I can make it. I'm also a little lazy. This kit allows me to use the remote to lock or unlock the deadbolt from another room or outside the house. I can also give a remote to my kids to unlock or lock the door as they come and go from the house. It is important that your deadbolt turns easily on its own and you do not need to pull or push on the door to engage the lock. It basically will not work if it does not turn freely. The kit comes with everything you need to install, including magnets for metal doors or a metal plate and adhesive strips for non-metal doors. The remotes are pretty small so be sure to put the on a key chain or use the small adhesive tabs to put the up somewhere. The remotes are also pre-programmed so it works out of the box. The kit has a great finish and is nicely made. My only concern is that the mechanism that actually turns the deadbolt is made from plastic. The kit will try to turn 360⁰, but my deadbolts only turn about 90⁰ to engage the lock. The kit does not snap, click, or try to overpower the lock, but I'm concerned that the plastic may not hold up with time. We shall see.

This was a really unique and easy to install solution to automating a deadbolt. Let me start by saying the kit comes complete, including batteries for the unit and the remote, you can hit the ground running right away. I installed this on a metal door, which means no drilling, no double sided tape, it has 6 strong magnets to secure it. If you are installing it on a wooden or fiberglass door, it comes with command hook tape ready to install. First thing, you need to slide the metal plate out of the woy, you do that by sliding it to the side, don’t try just pulling it off, the magnets are too strong. You than remove the battery strip to allow contact with the unit. I checked my batteries before installing as they had moved during shipping, it takes 4 AA batteries. I would suggest synching the remotes ot the unit before installing, it is very easy, you press the synch button on the unit and the remote button, synch them both together so that both are hooked up correctly. You set the deadbolt handle to open, install the unit over the deadbolt handle and the magnets hold it in place. You are done. I tested the remotes and had no issue opening the lock. Just be aware these remotes have a range of about 80 feet, I was able to unlock the door from anywhere on the first floor of my house. These will not unlock your door from a far distant like a wifi set up. I gave one to a family member so they could check on my dogs and not worry about them losing my key. This would be a good solution if you need to let a contractor into your house while you are not home and don’t want them to have a key. The ease of the install, ability to remove it and the coast make this a great solution for allowing someone into your house temporarily. You can even hide a remote in your shed in case you get locked out.

I was pretty intrigued when I saw this InstaLOCK and had to try it. #1 it really is as easy to install (10 minues or less) and even a novice should be able to complete the task. This is of a good quality and attractive as well. I love that the idea that this InstaLOCK attachs to my wood door with command hooks. It is easy to install and to remove. I am delighted with this lock and would recommend it for anyone!

The instaLOCK Remote Controlled Deadbolt Conversion Kit seems to be made a little cheaply and didn't have a lot of features. I thought it was like a smart lock but it's really just a remote like opening a garage door. The look of the silver on the lock doesn't quite match the stainless look of the door knob. It's basically a lock that goes over your lock. I don't think I would recommend this product.

This deadbolt conversion kit is incredible! It's easy to set up as the mechanism fits directly over our deadbolt. It sticks magnetically to our front door, and they have an adhesive kit included for those who do not have a metal door. It took less than a minute to set up. If adhering to a metal door, you have to remove the metal plate on the back first, and that takes a bit of oomph to do as the magnets are very strong. It does just slide right off when you get it moving. After attaching the mechanism over the deadbolt, we tested it with the remotes (2 come with it), and it works beautifully. It comes with 4 AA batteries installed. The other nice thing about this is that our deadbolt still works with a key if we want to use that or if the batteries need changing in the unit. If you have a regular deadbolt, I would highly recommend this kit over replacing with a complicated remote locking mechanism.

This remote lock is super simple to install and operate. This is a cost effective way to add a remote to your deadbolt lock without having to purchase a more expensive remote, keypad assembly. You simply remove the tab from the Battery pack on the unit, push the pair button on the back of the unit until the Red LED lights, then you press the button on the remote. Installation is easy as it attaches right over your existing Deadbolt knob. It has Magnets and will attach right onto a metal door. If you do not have a metal Door it comes supplied with a plate that has 3M adhesive strips that will attach to your Door , and the unit will then attach to the Metal plate. This is for use on Deadbolts that operate in any direction, or if you want to change which button on the remote you want the operation to be. You simply remove a battery “AA” from the unit and change the polarity switch, wait Ten Seconds and reinstall the Battery. You may have to make minor adjustments up or down to get the unit to work smoothly due to the difference sizes of knobs. This works from up to 80’ away, works with existing keys, works on all Doors, and has a rolling code technology with over 1 Trillion codes. If you don’t want to shell out big bucks on a remote door lock this is the one for you.

The InstaLock Silver Smart Keyless Remote Access Deadbolt Conversion Kit, Installs Over Your Existing Interior Deadbolt is a quick way to give someone entry to your home and not give them a key. It works well on my ordinary dead bolt lock. It also does not require any WIFI or internet hook up which is a plus. I am a bit dismayed that it has a plastic housing. It looks out of place with the new door I just installed. I do like the small size of the remote, as it is easy to carry. I see that I will use it to let grandkids in without worrying about them losing a key. It is very easy to put on the door and to remove it without any damage. I do hope Instalock will eventually make this item with a bit more robust and nicer looking housing.

As an attempt to modify an existing door and lock system to be smart this system functional and pretty easy to use. The look and feel of it though is very poor. It also requires that you keep up with small remotes that can be attached to key rings or store in places that are assessable in case of an emergency. It would do much better to have an app, though that would require it to be more expensive and require more parts. It is perfectly ok and will serve to give you a keyless entry. It is not good looking and is not a smart lock.

As an apartment renter I wanted the ease of a keyless entry but without the high cost of a specialty lock that I may not be able to reuse when moving to a new apartment. This instalock kit really fits the bill for effortless installation and does not alter the existing lock set one bit. The brushed silver finish looks great and retains the manual function of the door lock as well as adding the remote entry function. This can be installed to metal doors with the Pre installed magnets, or non metallic doors by attaching a metal plate to the door with the included 3m command strips. These strips allow damage free removal when needed. The 2 included remotes work great and while I didn’t test them at the maximum rated distance of 80 fr they worked great at 25 ft or less that I usually use them at. The only issue I can see one encountering is if your existing deadbolt does not engage smoothly when the door is closed. If you need to push, pull or lift on your door when using your key to lock your door then this unit will not be able to lock your door on its own and door adjustment is recommended prior to using this.

2 1/2 Stars for this great idea that has gone wrong for me. I wanted a simple deadbolt lock conversion that would allow me to let contractors in and then relock the door. I have been successful at getting the lock conversion to unlock the door by resetting the Polarity Switch following the instructions provided. However the lock conversion then can not lock the door. Using the thumb-turn manually finds that the lock conversion operates smoothly so that is not my problem. Going back to the instructions and packaging, I found no troubleshooting on this issue. There is no 800 number to call for assistance. The Brushes Silver case looks great until you install it over the brushed nickel door lever. The two finishes are very different and the lock conversion looks cheap. The remotes are small so easy to carry on your key chain or for my purpose to store in a secure place for when contractors are expected. The remote worked from at least 50 feet which would allow me to open the door without getting out of my chair. This feature would be just the answer for a homebound person at a reasonable cost: if it worked. The idea was just what I needed but it only worked 50% of my need.

This is a fairly simple solution to automating a deadbolt without all the Internet-of-things complexity of other smart devices. This is not actually a deadbolt itself, but A “knob turner” that fits over your existing deadbolt to help open and close it, when you press a button on the included remote controls. It attaches to your existing deadbolt via a dual sided adhesive tape, which holds a metal mount in place. Magnets on the main assembly then attach to the metal mount that’s stuck to your deadbolt. I found the overall assembly to be pretty easy. Not sure about the longevity of the adhesive mounting though, and I probably would’ve preferred to see another mounting solution. The two included remote controls have a pretty good range, I estimate about 50 feet or more. The “knob turner“ mechanism is pretty cool in that it lets you still operate the deadbolt manually, while having remote access. Overall this is a great solution for those older folks who are not technically savvy, like my parents, Who don’t want all the hassle of smart devices and their associated apps. This is so much more straightforward and easy. Mounting can be a little awkward for certain deadbolt styles, as the housing will stick out sometimes a lot further than you want it to. But overall this is a quick and easy solution to remote access for a deadbolt.

This is a pretty clever product but it does have some limitations. It won't actually work on the deadbolt that I was planning to use it on because it is designed to go over a standard round trim deadbolt and I have a square trim. However, I did try it out on another deadbolt lock in my house and it works just fine. Installation is easy, it comes with the batteries installed but you need to pull the contact tab. You will see in the pictures that the back plate slides off - it is attached by strong magnets - the instructions aren't clear on that so I spent a while prying, pushing, turning it over in my hands until I figured it out. If you have a metal door, all you have to do is leave that metal plate off and the magnets will attach it to the door. It comes with Command tape adhesive fasteners to use on a non-metal door. While this does seem sturdy, the interior mechanism is plastic so I wouldn't leave home without my keys (the instructions say as much). But it would be helpful to be able to push a button vs. wrestling with my keys when unlocking my front door with my hands full.

The InstaLock in Silver with remote is a nice addition to my home. Out of the box it comes with instructions for both metal and wood doors. The metal door is easier to install but both are not hard anyway. The lock stays in place with six strong magnets, it would have been nice to have something soft so it wouldn’t scratch the paint off the door but once installed there is no need to remove unless batteries need to be replaced. As for the batteries, it would have been better if it was a larger battery and rechargeable. The cover is made of plastic but looks attractive. Both remotes come programmed and worked right away. I like that the polarity can be changed on the base, if you want it to go one way or the other just change the polarity. I would have liked for the deadbolt part to be able to make it smaller since it is a bit loose. Overall it works, sometimes I have to press the button twice to unlock, do not know why since the deadbolt works perfectly but on the other hand it is easier than to look for the key, specially I am carrying something.

The Instalock remote add-on with a thumb turn cylinder deadbolt has been a great addition to the house. Out of habit of locking the door when we walk in, my wife and I keep locking each other out. The Instalock has strong magnets to easily attach it to a metal door and also comes with a metal plate and tape strips to attach to a wooden door. We carry one of the remotes on us all of the time and when we get locked out, it's just a push of the button and we are back inside. Every house needs at least one of these.

It works well and it’s super easy to install and operate. If you can open the packaging then you’ll have no issues installing in under 5 minutes. The magnets hold it very well to a steel door and if needed it includes at plate and command strips to attach to a wood or fiberglass door as well. The remotes are very small. The shell is plastic and the inside gears are nylon and you’ll notice a small belt that operates the lever. Seems well made, not sure how long I’d expect it to last if used several times a day.

This is a really cool product. We have put it on our front door which is metal and does not require the use of the included metal plate. It works perfectly and the two remotes come with batteries. It also looks extremely nice on the door. It works from the outside as well as it works on the inside. I think whoever thought this up is a genius. No need to rekey the locks!!

I am loving my instaLOCK. A press of the button and my deadbolt is unlocked. I love it when I have my arms full of stuff. And when it's dark, I don't have to shine a light to get the key in the lock! I did have an issue with dead batteries in the remotes when I got it, but after contacting the company, I received an immediate call back from the OWNER and he took care of it, pronto. I was up and running in no time with no further cost to me. I was duly impressed. Would buy again!

It was easy to install and works well.

The lock does not work, because neither of the remotes will operate, the indicator lights do not go on, on either one. Like the batteries are dead or something, the light on the lock indicates that both remotes are properly paired to the unit but they do not operate.

Easy to install. Easy to start using out the box. However be mindful of your fingers when seperating the magnetic back to add batteries.
