After replacing the battery all I get is an error signal and of course the beeping sound. I have used different batteries with the same result.

Answer:
All Kidde co2 detectors mfd. 2007 and later have a working life of 7 years. Mine just died 04/15/16 (Err code). Looked on back and it was mfd. 05/2007. Looked up code error online and found the working life info. Putting new batteries in it does not work - it will still "chirp" every 30 seconds AND it will no longer detect co2. I cannot speak of other brands as mine is a Kidde.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 168 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Solid Carbon Monixide Detector It's not the pricey fancy model but it does what it is designed for. It comes with a battery but I chose to put in a fresher heavy duty battery just in-case the battery that was included was old. Super easy to install (comes with screws). I would buy this model again. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product. This is a battery operated carbon monoxide detector.Great for locations where there is no electrical source. Great for landlords.Easy to install. I recently installed them in six apartments thus I cant judge their long term quality and lifespan. So far so good. Would recommend them. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean look Simple install and required by code for your families safety against carbon monoxide February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better in bulk I install these gratis in the homes of low income folks and appreciate the chance to buy them in packs at a reduced cost. They mount easily, especially when I use the right masonry bit size to drill the holes! Haven't had a "dud" yet so quality is consistent. The only issue I have with this product is that the plastic embossed notations on the units could be easier to read. The lettering is very small font and there's no contrast with the case color. That's an improvement I'd make to serve the elderly for whom I'm working when they deal with these units. In fairness, I haven't seen competing products that are easier to read, so this would be an improvement that might be profitable in the long run. Mel August 4, 2015
