Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by trombino Fakro wood attic ladder is well made. Home Depot delivered on time and provided immediate ship tracking information.
Ladder is well made and sturdy. It appears to be a good value for the price. The hand rail is particularly useful, and the large, L-shaped, "allen wrench type tool" provided makes it easy to open/close door. Nice latch mechanism forces door against a seal, so no heat loss into attic during winter months. Had a contractor install, since ceiling hole in closet leading into attic needed to be enlarged around existing lighting. Attached is photo of completed installation with attic door painted white (review site rotated photo 90 degrees counter-clockwise).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by carport somewhat disappointing
The promo for this ladder was great, but the instructions were awful. There was only an IKEA-like picture book with the product, and the online video had many errors. It showed the ladder as being able to be raised up to install the screws, but it did not raise up. This, the mounting with screws and shims was very precarious. There were several cracks in the wood possible due to packing and/or shipping. And there seems to be no easy way to order accessories such as ladder pads.
The product seems to work, but only by the grace of God.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Challenged Excellent Insulated Wood Attic Ladder
I have installed two of these ladders in our attic (opposite ends of the house). The one I installed a year ago is an excellent ladder once finished; it took two people to install and was all one piece. The good news is that the manufacture made the newer version (same model and size) lighter and it has the access door with quick install, snap-in-place attachments allowing one person installation. What an improvement.
I wasn't dissatisfied with the first ladder. But this latest improvement is well designed and thoughtful of the weekend DIY. It is well made, has good mechanisms, perfect step size and angle, nicely sealed and insulated with a latching closure. It finishes beautifully. Instructions are all graphics, which work fine. The pamphlet on cutting into the attic is comprehensive, allowing you to proceed with confidence.
It helps if you know basics about cutting wood and modifying attic framing; it requires advanced tools; you will not finish this project with a bent screw driver and a pair of pliers. But if you work with a handyman or a knowledgeable neighbor, this is a great improvement for your house. All the light-weight and bulky Christmas boxes are neatly stored and easy to retrieve!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Judys Fits well in tight spaces
We needed to install pull down stairs in our upstairs hallway which is a pretty small area. These smaller stairs fit nicely in the space & came already insulated which was great. They also have a nice detached handle for opening & closing. So no ugly pull chain dangling in the air. Very happy with this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 07jrod Great Product
Bought this ladder to replace an existing and useless small hatch in my closet. Installed this ladder in my hallway in a few hours. You can get better installation instructions on the home depot website product page. These are more detailed than the included 'pictures only' instructions. Attic ladder is very high quality and it's the main reason I'm taking the time to write a review. You will not be disappointed with this ladder!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by tnhome Product Even Better than I Expected
When it arrived, I was impressed at the packaged item. It was well done so that the product itself arrived in good shape. Upon inspecting the stairs, I found that it was beyond my expectations in all ways. It is a good product, built sturdy, not flimsy, and the added feature of the locking mechanism from inside the house is a bonus. The removeable rod to unlock is a great bonus, no cord hanging down visually in the way. Installation went easily enough, and for the sturdy factor, the unit was much lighter than one would expect. My wife and I easily lifted it into position together. Very happy with this purchase!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by WHM3 Attic Stairs
I was disappointed in these stairs after installation. The springs are not strong enough to close the door all the way and keep it closd. Instead, there is a latch that you must turn by inserting the end of a 3 foot long handle into a hole and turning. Similarly, you cannot just pull the stairs down. You must go find your handle and unlatch the latch first. It would have been nice to have seen this detail in the product description.
On the plus side, I am a 200 pound guy, and the stairs did seem sturdy enough. The 300 pound rating is probably real.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jetr Attic Stairs
I recently installed these attic stairs in my house. First, I was very impressed with how quickly they were shipped to my house. Second, I was very impressed with the quality of this product. I have had trouble with the quality of attic stairs in the past, but these were different. The new stairs were solid and well built. The insulated door panel was soild and included weather striping around the entire frame. Installation of the door was smoothe and I would recommend this door to anyone intreseted in a set of insulated attic stairs.
